You ain't gonna catch me arguing against that, in principle. Hopefully everyone heard early on in life the phrase "nation of immigrants" in describing this country. It is what it is. **At least in part, as previous poster mentioned. But sure, a significant part.

But of course then there's all kinds of argument to be made for and against much more restricted immigration at this point on our history, for a litany of reasons. I know I'm not dropping any new information here. It just felt right.

"A Nation of immigrants" doesn't even scratch the service

At one point most of our families were immigrants I think is the point

The bigger point is if you think that 10% of people in VA being foreign born is somehow problematic then you're a part of the problem.

This article says that 1/9 of Virginia RESIDENTS was born outside the US. Of course, many of those residents are not citizens and are thus not eligible to vote.

This article says that only half of them are citizens. If that is correct, only about 6% of eligible voters are foreign-born.

and some of those residents are under 18.

I heard something like 30% of California residents were born outside the US.

And it's actually not just Asians and Mexicans now.

You can live in an entire County now and half don't speak fricking English. If you live in a wealthy County, it's tons of Europeans that don't speak English, still mostly Mexicans, tons of Chinese...but the South American, the Eastern European...

California is like the UN on the Coasts...the world has flocked to it. You have the ones who have money flocking to it...the Eastern Europeans and Chinese and the ones that flock to it with no money, the Mexicans and Central Americans.

California is just a Free Land State now...open borders, no restrictions, flock, flock, flock.

Total tourist State where the tourists have become permanent residents or a Summer home. It seems like every immigrant, legal or not legal has chosen California. It's become the dumping ground of the over-population of America and the one State where English will no longer be the majority language. Nobody cares to learn it, they don't have to. From all countries and cultures. California has become the most International Country on the planet.

It's its own Country.,,A weird foreign affair.

If only 1 in 10 in Virginia were born outside the country..,where did the Dems get the other 4+ in 10 needed to win an electoral majority? Immigration should be completely halted at this time to preserve our native culture, but we have a home grown leftist problem that is substantial. This is the same math problem that people who say a minority of a Muslims are terrorist supporting sharia lovers run into. How do they keep winning elections in crapistans?

Oh, and I was born outside the country as well, but will be picking up my AR to defend the second right next to y’all.

The Indians are there for the IT jobs.

Sat part is that many of them aren't very skilled in IT. Sure, there are a handful I've worked with that know their shite but many of them took a few courses but no practical experience. However the H1B visa racket allows the market to be flooded with them as they'll work for significantly less than what the market demands.

The funniest thing in all this is when a company will outsource their IT to a large Indian based consulting company like Infosys or Wypro only to start internalizing it three years later. The quality of work and competency is extremely low yet large companies keep doing this shite.

We have been, and remain, a nation of immigrants. In 1910, 70% of New York City was foreign born. This is who we are. Embrace it because it will not change.

In 1910, we only had 46 states in this country. Oklahoma had been a state for a total of three years. Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, the Dakotas, and Utah has been part of the nation for less than two decades.

We are not a nation of immigrants. We were an unsettled frontier where immigrants with a Judeo-Christian background were settling, If it doesn’t change, America as we know it is lost.

This breaks it down by state. California is #1 at 28%. New York and New Jersey are next, both above 20%. Florida is also over 20% but votes red/purple. Texas is above the national average but still votes red.

Then there are states like Oregon, Minnesota, and Colorado with foreign born populations substantially below the US average of 13.7% that still vote blue so although large numbers of immigrants do help a state trend blue there isn’t a direct correlation (home grown leftists still outnumber them by a good bit).

Is this really uncommon in American history? The only difference is the immigrants were white before 1970 or so. My Catholic Church is primarily Filipino now. I don’t know where they all came from but there aren’t leaving. They also have lots of kids.

In 1910 people migrated to make a better life for themselves, in 2019 the majority migrate to enjoy the social benefits, big big difference.
