I have plenty of stories...

One kid was sleeping in his desk, and the teacher flipped the desk with him still in it. He stopped sleeping through class.

Another two kids kept talking in class and after repeated warnings the teacher walked over, lifted them out of the desk and told them if they didnt stop he would literally throw them out of class. They stopped talking.

Others involve thrown objects, kids kneeling on hot concrete saying the rosary, and bamboo canes to the back of the head.

This was all boys though, so I doubt this would have gone ovee well in a coed setting.

Had to kneel on uncooked rice. It worked.

Not uncommon at all in my time. My dad also had a paddle and we got one hit for D’s and two for F’s. I didn’t make above C’s until 7th grade. I was a stubborn little bastard, but a better man because of it.
