If you changed those things in that way, the quote would be nonsensical. Nobody thinks that this country was or is of/for Mexicans or blacks or Asians exclusively in the past or going forward. That is not true for whites.

Liberals have been droning on about Demographics being destiny for at least a decade. Which is to say, they are basically saying, "minority's turn".
