Are the biggest supporters of government handout programs

These people get extremely angry and attack anyone who says we need to reign in spending on Social Security/Medicare and reform it before it goes broke. Anyone who proposes any idea to reform these, no matter how common sense it is, gets attacked by these senior citizen "conservatives" like a pack of hyenas fighting over a dead zebra carcass. Even when they are explained to that the two programs are going to go broke.

These are probably the same types of people who went to tea party rallies and held signs saying "Keep your government hands off my medicare"

The only plan these people seem to endorse is to "deport all illegals" and "stop giving illegals taxpayer dollars". While I agree that needs to be done that will not even be a drop in the bucket in terms of saving social security and medicare.

It's no wonder we can't get entitlement reform. It's these "conservative" senior citizens blocking it.

If I live until the age where I can receive SS and other handouts and I have paid into those programs with no returns for the previous however many years, you can bet your arse I will argue for receiving what I paid into.

Don’t expect me to pay into something and then expect me to not get the return on my “investment”.

It probably shouldnt be so much of a surprise to you that those who have invested the longest thus have the most to lose are the most vocal about it.

Social Security was not designed the be a handout program. The politicians just couldn’t keep their hands out of that pot and fricked it up.

You do realize they've spent a LIFE TIME paying into those programs right...they're asking to finally get their money back and you feel the need to post some half-baked idea born in an echo chamber so intellectually dishonest it couldn't tell you this was a fcking stupid thought and as soon as it saw light of day would instantly be debunked and shot down.

Let the needed reforms kick in with your generation. That way you'll know far ahead of time what to expect.

When you purchase things and use your debit card or write a check do you consider that a "bank" hand out to you?

Absolutely correct. I've been -forced- to pay into this BS my entire working life, which began 35 years ago.

I don't agree with big collectivist programs like SS at all, but if you want to get rid of them do it fairly by stopping the collections first, at the young end.

FYI if the gov't would let me walk away right now, and stop taxing me for the programs, I wouldn't ask for a cent from them, and I'd do better than the return on those programs for the remainder of my career.

But if you forcibly confiscate my money up until my retirement age, then yes I expect you to return what you stole from me.

How is paying into a retirement system for your entire life, and then using said benefit you've been paying for, an entitlement?

OP is clearly someone who has no idea how any of this works.

OP, let me give you some advice in the form of a saying, it's better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.

Of course.

If you want what's rightfully yours, you might be a conservative.

If you want what's rightfully somebody else's, you might be a liberal.

Do you even realize all the plans set forth to reform them do not affect anyone 55 or older?

How about they pay back the 6 trillion stolen from SS and used to lower your income tax.
Then they can stop diverting funds from SS into the general fund.
SS is fully solvent if you will stop stealing the funds.
