Well, that’s a stupid thing to say. What an idiot.

OK. Well, I mean. Damn. Come on dude.
I mean sure, it was definitely a business decision...........having slaves was "good" business.............but WHO one chose to enslave was quite obviously driven by one's view of that particular group of humans.
Sheesh

Come on man.
This is silly.
No one hates the whole "that's racist" shite more than I do.........but this was just a blindingly fricking stupid thing for him to say.
What's the benefit of it?

No hard feelings, it was just business

He's kinda right.
It was a business decision; however, the justification for perpetual servitude was race-based.
Indentured servants were less expensive as a capital investment, but once they fulfilled their term, they could move down the road and become farming competition (as whites, they had no legal/social barriers other than whether they owned property). Plus, even if their spouse was also an IS, their children were not.

No, but they were viewed as inferior because they were black. The belief that blacks were something less than fully human was the majority position until the 20th century.

I realize that some slave owners slept with their African slaves, but let's be honest.
If it had been Asians in the slave trade, there would be no 100% white people left in the south.

Sure, there have been slaves of all races in history
But you can't divorce the racial connection at that timefame.
You had the confluence of three things
1. Black chieftains were busy making war with and enslaving their black neighbors and creating a slave surplus.
2. Europeans created a market for the Africans to sell to.
3. Europeans viewed the black slaves as an inferior class, so they didn't feel too bad about until they learned more over the next couple of centuries.

Call someone's statement stupid yet offer no retort of your own. At least he's not a pussy.
While he is correct that is was all a business move, he is ignoring the fact that black's were not looked upon as people back then. Sure they were easy to buy due to their own fellow blacks selling them in Africa which dictated the market; however, to state that racism was not a part of it is disingenuous. Were there any white slaves? I think this is a clear point that can't be ignored.
Slavery has been around for all of the world's history. What America does not get the due credit for is overcoming it and changing the idea of slavery for all of the world. That is strength in character.

Claims it was stated in sarcasm
quote:
Horn initially drew attention for his comments in a Facebook post by former state House member Dan Hynes, who posed the question: "If Trump is the most racist president in American history, what does that say about all of the other presidents who owned slaves?" Horn responded, “Wait, owning slaves doesn’t make you racist..." "I guess not," Hynes answered Tuesday. "Which is surprising since everything else makes someone a racist."

UL and Huffpo wrote a story involving a post I made. I was not asked to comment for either article. Some people are inferring I believe slavery was not racist. I thought my comment was clearly sarcastic as could be seen by the context of my comments. Since that is not the case, I have removed the post since I fully believe slavery in America was based on racism. And I do not wish to have people use my comments as a basis for support of either slavery or racism.

So... they chose to buy the thousands of black slaves over the thousands of white slaves that were available?

True. The British sent over 300,000 white folks to the colonies as slaves.
