In an apparent jab at the administration, The Times’ headline said, “At a Key Moment, Trump’s Top Diplomat Is Again Thousands of Miles Away.”

The Times’ story noted that “Senior State Department officials were momentarily speechless on Tuesday when asked why Mr. Pompeo did not delay his trip by a day to be in Washington during Mr. Trump’s Iran deal announcement.”

It became clear on Wednesday morning why Pompeo didn’t delay his trip to Pyongyang when Trump took to Twitter.

The story, written by Gardiner Harris, focused on Trump’s top diplomat being absent when Trump “made what could be the most significant diplomatic announcement of his presidency” by pulling out of the Iran nuclear agreement.

“The absence of Mr. Pompeo and other top State Department officials left perplexed European diplomats privately complaining that they were having trouble getting answers from Washington,” Harris wrote.

The Times story also mocked Pompeo’s plane, reporting that it “has such poor equipment that calls are often dropped midsentence.”

It turned out that Pompeo’s absence was more than justified, and any aging technology on his plane didn’t prevent him from leaving Pyongyang with three Americans that have been held captive oversees. The detaniees -- Tony Kim, Kim Hak Song and Kim Dong Chul -- are presumably thankful that Pompeo didn’t push back his trip to satisfy European diplomats

In addition to rescuing three Americans, Pompeo also helped arrange a date and location for Trump’s meeting with Kim Jong Un, according to Trump.

Maybe they should try journalism instead of just political commentary.

A few phone calls would have probably cleared some of that up.

Trump has the Times twisted in knots. I am so glad that Trump doesn't project all his dealings ahead of time last past presidents. The media can't stand the fact that we now have a president that doesn't give notice to the media to what is actually fixing to happen. He let's them learn along with the rest of us.

Trump and his administration are running circles around the MSM, and the MSM doesn't know how to react to it.

Once again, the MSM tries to attack Pompeo for not delaying his Pyongyang trip by one day in order to stay in DC and watch Trump's announcement of us leaving the Iran deal only to later see that he went to NK to bring home 3 NK prisoners.

The daily doses of pie that the MSM takes to the face is becoming the norm. It's hilarious to watch.

Phone calls wouldn’t have cleared that up.

For one, they’re idiots.

For another, they would take “The Secretary is dealing with something else important” as minimizing the Iran deal and/or code for “sleeping off a hangover” given Hillary’s tenure at State.

This is the kind of silliness you get from an adversarial media approach.

NYT is more concerned with attacking the administration than it is with being an objective purveyor of news.

For the record, as someone who has read the NYT on and off for most of my life, it has never been this blatantly biased. NYT was critical of Bush, for example, but never so openly, never so frequently and never with such subjective criteria.
