Paul Pelosi could not be reached for comemnt...

quote:

The decision comes following an investigation into a head-on collision that took place on New Year's Day 2021 in Avenel, California, between a speeding SUV being driven by an impaired driver and a pickup truck that left nine dead. ?"Technology could’ve prevented this heartbreaking crash — just as it can prevent the tens of thousands of fatalities from impaired-driving and speeding-related crashes we see in the U.S. annually," NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy said in a report. "We need to implement the technologies we have right here, right now to save lives."?

Part of the infrastructure bill that nobody read ...

quote:

NHTSA is already working on the topic as the infrastructure bill signed into law by President Biden in 2021 included a requirement for all vehicles to be equipped with passive alcohol interlocks, which would make them inoperable if a high blood alcohol level is detected. The law dictates that regulations be developed within three years and gives automakers two years to comply, but allows the Department of Transportation to extend the periods, if technically necessary.

All you need is one sober person in the car to get around it.

You know they wont be required to have them, right?

On paper, maybe. Certainly not in practice.

And this will only cost 3000 dollars to the cost of new cars!

It's worth it!

If it saves one life.

And by a life they mean Democrat. Because they already think all Republicans should be dead.

Sober people will walk around outside of bars and get paid to blow so people can drive home.

And to pay $500 more for your vehicle, which probably means you're helping create a few more billionaire Dem donors.

If its passive I think it is just a sensor that picks up the alcohol in the air.

That’s a feature not a bug. When they say they will refund the police, they mean defund the police

At some point, we’ll have to offer obeisance to the Emperor to start our cars.

When does the Covid-19 rapid test get installed in new cars?

Was in Colorado visiting a friend a couple years, his roommate was driving us around. Asked him why he had a hair dryer in his front seat. He pointed to the alcohol detector in his car.

Sounds great but just another way to control the population…

Why not make driving under the influence a capitol offense?

This goes beyond the authority of gov to mandate EVERY CAR get something that passively detects a person's alcohol. Make it available as an add on, or sell it in the free market, but this is authoritarian garbage parading under the guise of 'safety'.

The courts and police will never allow it; not because they’re protecting our rights, but because they’re protecting their pocketbooks.

How many courts, judges, lawyers, etc. have jobs because of DUI enforcement? How many police make extra working MADD funded checkpoints? Lobbyist? Advertising contracts? Rehab programs? How much money flows into the coffers from fines, trial avoidance programs, interlock fees?

Remember, the biggest opposition to self driving technology is the national policing organizations … because they don’t want their unappropriated cash cow to die. This will be no different.
