NPR Legal Affairs Correspondent Nina Totenberg was besties with RBG for 48 years while covering the court for NPR. Think she had a little bias?

quote:

n the wake of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's death, one of the most popular stories NPR produced was a 9-minute essay by Legal Affairs Correspondent Nina Totenberg on her 48-year friendship with the legendary judge.

And there it is...

quote:

But the touching essay reveals a double-edged sword: Totenberg's access to Ginsburg yields deep reporting that has well-served NPR audiences for years. But the closeness of that Totenberg-Ginsburg relationship was never fully disclosed, and raises the question of whether journalistic independence — also vital to NPR consumers — was as solid as listeners have a right to expect.

Why does being impartial matter in reporting her death?

Eta: never mind. Saw the part about it mattering over the course of her work. Yeah I guess that would lead someone to pulling journalistic punches.

I believe the “last dying wish” is what the OP is getting at

It doesn't but the NPR reporter has been covering the SOCTUS for 30 years. She was best friends with a Justice on the court. You don't see a little conflict of interest?

That's not even the start. Totenberg has had an active role in attempting to derail every republican SCOTUS nomination since Reagan nominated Ginsburg. She's an advocate, not a "reporter". Has been since the 80s.

She's also a reprehensible human being. She once wished Jessie Helms, or one of his grandchildren, would get AIDS and die. It's a disgrace (and telling) that she is still employed as a "reporter" after such a vile and biased statement.

Well, the truth is it doesn't matter with regard to constitutional procedure set forth for this process. It's very clear and no where does it say an outgoing Justice shall appoint his or her replacement.

Also, if I'm the friend of RBG who broke this, I'd be ashamed. This does nothing but tarnish RBG's reputation in the sense that she, a prominent member of the Judiciary, would want the Constitution ignored.

It's also not a good look that a human near death would be concerned with politics rather than her family and loved ones.

Not all commentary is as favorable towards the late Justice Ginsburg as Ms. Totenberg's.

An interesting perspective by a Roman Catholic commentator: Stone Cold Killer
quote:

Let's cut through all the garbage and platitudes about a nation mourning a "trailblazing" jurist. Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a stone-cold killer who sent tens of millions of children to their deaths before they ever saw the light of day.

Even still. Her dying wish means 0 constitutionally. Only a stone cold idiot would give it any kind of credence.

Regardless of her relationship with Ginburg, is that even a serious question? Totenberg is infamous for her requited liberal DC friendships and animus for conservatives. When Juan Williams pointed that out, she got him fired from NPR. That's when he joined FNC.

That's a very true statement. Old habits die hard.

Absolutely not,

What’s vital to npr listeners is those shills continue to confirm their distorted view of reality

Don't worry, we've known NPR doesn't have "journalistic independence" and have for years.

Reagan nominated Douglas Ginsburg after the Bork nom was rejected, and Ginsburg withdrew due to admitting to smoking weed with his law students. That eventually led to Anthony Kennedy’s appointment.
