Russia is the only country since the industrial revolution that was willing to throw as many bodies as it takes to win a war. Literally zero limits. Even Japan didnt go that far and they used Kamikazee bombers.
So it really doesnt matter what the weather was. Its an impossible place to invade by the sheer fact they will quite literally fight to the last person alive.
