Trumps stands in the shadow of nobody other than Washington.

I’m a Trump supporter, but there is no way to justify this. All Presidents are controversial, but they should be judged by whether the country kept, and built upon, their legacy. Using that as a guide there are several Presidents that stand above the rest.

- Washington is first because he set the new nation on a sustainable path.
- Jefferson even if based solely on the Louisiana Purchase.
- Franklin Roosevelt for guiding us through the Depression and WW2, and for staving off Marxism.
- Reagan for resurrecting American exceptionalism, winning the Cold War and starting an economic boom that lasted at least 35 years and separated America from the rest of the world in terms of GDP.

These four stand alone to anyone not eaten up with ideology. Trump could join that group but only if his tariffs and anti-immigration policies take root and deliver prosperity to the American working class. And if he thwarts China’s rise. Trump’s story, and place on this list, is yet to be told.

I keep hearing that Reagan is the #1 reason why California is what it is today. If that’s the case, Trump all day long over Reagan

How about James Madison who authored much of the constitution? Madison had the radical belief that all men are created equal based on John Locke's philosophic beliefs and writings. I would put him in the top five with George Washington, Ronald Reagan, Donald Trump, and Thomas Jefferson.

The exact opposite. Just the presidency isn't a sport.

I liked Reagan but he’s a big part of the reason Cali is lost today.

True but debating the topic allows points of views as to who and why is considered best. Discussing the pros and cons of the presidents it can shed light on what policies work and which ones don't.

Of course it still comes down to opinion- some people in this thread support big government communism and some support the rights of the individual.

I'd take out Reagan in favor of James Polk.

I agree. I am not trying to bash the thread although I know it sure looks that way. I am just throwing in my feelings on the matter. Carry on.

I am one of Trumps biggest supporters. He gets my vote for MVP if my vote is required. I just see flaws in everyone now more than ever. I didn't agree with the pause in the Israel / Iran war. Although I acknowledge it might have been because Israel need Iran to stop sending missiles because they were running out of air defense ordinance.

I didn't agree with still sending crap to Ukraine but it could be that we needed to do that just to end it by not allowing Ukraine to totally crumble and displace millions of people.

We are voting with incomplete knowledge. No problem with the thread. Carry on.

The kindly, "truth-telling", grandfatherly, "I could be King but I don't want it" fellow we look up to as THE founding father crossed a freezing river in the middle of the night on Christmas to murder Hessian mercenaries.

Andrew Jackson is top 3-5 for sure.

In the War of 1812, he saved America by not allowing Britain to seize the Mississippi River in the Battle of New Orleans.

I’ll direct you to Prop 187 which we passed in 1994 only to have a federal court overturn it in 1999.

quote:

California Proposition 187, state ballot initiative that sought to deny access to social services, nonemergency health services, and public education to undocumented immigrants living in California. Voters approved the measure in 1994, but a U.S. federal court subsequently overturned it, and Proposition 187 was officially voided in 1999.

Conservative Republican state legislator Dick Mountjoy was one of the coauthors of the proposition, and he spearheaded the successful effort to obtain enough signatures to have the measure included on California’s November 1994 general election ballot. In addition to making undocumented immigrants in California ineligible for an array of public services, Proposition 187 would have required state and local agencies to report persons suspected of being undocumented to the state attorney general or to U.S. immigration authorities

The text of Proposition 187 made various claims, including that Californians were “suffering economic hardship” because of the presence of illegal immigrants. The measure was backed by Republican Gov. Pete Wilson, who at the time was in the midst of a tough reelection campaign. A grassroots movement aimed at defeating Proposition 187 quickly sprang up, drawing strength in the state’s Latino communities. Many critics denounced the measure as a blatant effort to turn undocumented immigrants into scapegoats for problems the state faced.

Wilson won reelection with 59% of the vote. There’s more at the link if you’d like but this court ruling is what got us, not Reagan. Reagan is still ahead of Trump for me. Trump is still writing his story. We’ll see how it goes but I’m certainly optimistic about how things could go and maybe I’ll change my mind.

Were you an adult "Wage earner" during the Carter years?

Hell, Trump is still correcting the mistakes/screwups Carter made.

Reagan had to contend with Tip O'neal.

OG Amnesty Ron fricked Cali for good, and will be a battle for the rest of the Republic to survive.
