The NRA-backed legislation named “House File 756” will take effect on July 1 and eliminates the requirement for law-abiding Iowans to obtain a permit to purchase a handgun from private non-licensed sources. Additionally, to carry a weapon, people will no longer need to have a permit as well.

Proper decision, permits are simply revenue collection devices and create an infringement.

TN also just passed this. July 1 permitless carry is legal.

The new United States is coming together nicely. Although it will look weird with a big hole where Louisiana is.

Alabama has constitutional carry bills in the house and senate. Not holding my breath though because they have had them before and they didn't pass. No excuse when the republicans have the house and senate for this not passing.

What I have noticed is that law enforcement generally heavily lobbies against open carry (especially without a permit) because it makes their job harder (so they say).

I know for sure that my county sheriff is opposed to it. It probably shakes out to metro PD's and sheriffs oppose it and rural and suburban law enforcement support it.

Of course, you get no reciprocity without one (i.e., you can't carry concealed in another state).

Proper decision, yes. Those permits are more than that, though.

Many states honor the CC permits issued by other states. Oklahoma is a constitutional carry state now, but keeping my permit renewed allows me to still carry concealed when I travel to Kansas, Nebraska, Texas, Arizona, Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, etc.

It's worth it to me. I literally plan trips based on where I can (and cannot) legally carry. Always have.

More details please?

I know HB16 was brought up and I've emailed reps already but haven't heard anything more about it.

Legislation doesn't start until 12 April, 2021 I believe. Be ready to call again. I'll post it here when it arrives

They need to get rid of their retarded law about carrying a firearm in your vehicle unloading and the ammo in the trunk.

WTF Bama baws, get this done.

Here's a link to HB16 in its current form.

The second link allows you to follow the bill as it works its way through the sausage making process.
