Nice take on why San Francisco's Reparations are a terrible idea, from a black man.

"San Francisco's reparations plan will lead to this surprising outcome for Blacks like me."

Fox News Article
quote:

San Francisco recently announced a plan that seeks to provide reparations for the Black community. Under this proposal, every eligible Black adult in San Francisco would receive payments of $5 million, elimination of personal debt and tax burdens, a guaranteed annual income of at least $97,000 for 250 years, and the ability to purchase a home in San Francisco for only $1.

The cost for this plan would be $600,000 per non-Black family or roughly $250 billion dollars in total to taxpayers.

quote:

The city-appointed "Reparations Committee" would have you believe that their goal is equity and equality, but whether their intentions are genuine or not, the results of such a measure would only deepen a racial divide and stoke flames of resentment. It's irrational, it's financially implausible, and it is politically insane, and that’s why San Francisco Democrats are trying to make it law.

quote:

Providing reparations to a group of people hundreds of years removed from the sin of slavery does not right the wrongs of history.  It serves only to create a perpetual sense of victimhood, victim entitlement and promotes resentment amongst the people.

Perhaps this is exactly what the left wants, which is even more of a reason to reject an idea as disastrous as this one.

Californians are such noble, altruistic people. They will not mind.

I agree with him. I posted something similar recently. Realistically, many who would be receiving this money haven't had money before and will blow through it with nothing to show for it. Then what?
If Democrats truly cared about these folk, they would put some thought into what is best for the individual. Instead of giving money, they should provide education or training so people can better themselves. The handouts of welfare is exactly what has fostered this victim mentality he speaks about. Human nature doesn't appreciate something freely given as it appreciates something earned.

Honest question: Where does that money come from??? What does it do to an already overheated inflation number?

Regardless of your position on social issues, monetarily this is a disaster all over the place. You can't just hand out a lump sum $5m, $1m house, and $100k/yr for 90 years and expect the money to (a) materialize magically; (b) not completely screw up the inflation situation.

I think the other states should give out free bus tickets and give their African Americans a chance to move to San Francisco to get the reparations they’re justly due

Starting with Louisiana since the sin of slavery is so prevalent here

I've never been to Flint, but Gary is an absolute hell hole.

Until the feds either subsidize it indirectly or bail out the state from financial insolvency.

We’re all going to pay for this shite one way or another.

LA is headed that direction already.

If I were a black dude and California cut me a 200k check, I would GTFO and move somewhere sustainable.

It will be a two way street. Blacks migrating in will pass all the non blacks leaving.

That 600K per non black person burden will certainly grow.

Holy shite that’s insane. If this passes I’m moving to San Francisco to open up a car dealership and car accessories shop and about 20 car washes
