Behind the NFL’s Frantic Scramble to Hit Back at Trump
Over a hectic 24 hours, the league struggled to control the crisis, resulting in ad hoc and mixed messages at times from players and teams

In a speech Friday night, followed by a series of tweets Saturday morning, President Donald Trump castigated NFL players for kneeling during the national anthem. He said owners should fire any player who protests. He said games were boring and ratings were down, and called on fans to boycott the league because they love their country.
Goodell and many of the league’s fractious 32 owners soon decided Trump’s statements were less a defense of the flag than an unprecedented assault on their business. The commissioner and other league executives entered a 24-hour scramble—by text, telephone and email—to take control of the narrative and deliver an effective response.
By many measures, they didn’t quite succeed. This account of the weekend’s maneuvering—based on interviews with numerous people affiliated with NFL teams, the players union and the league itself who were directly involved—shows the various parties had spent the weekend in a feverish debate over how to respond to Trump.

I am fricking way under paid.
I can guarantee you there is someone in the NFL front office whose job it is to anticipate issues and understand their market.
Well. That fricker needed to give me a ring some time last year.

Trump already praised Cowboys for kneeling before. Intergalactic chess to bait them into kneeling more. Daddy 20 steps ahead!!

Well they did advertise today for a PR czar.

Is quite simple, you stage your little bitch fit at a time other than the Anthem or GTFO.

And the dumb fricks will hire someone with like 10 years of recent experience in a major metropolitan area who has no idea his experience is not representative.
And, they'll surround him with 10 aids just like him.
Then, they'll wonder why they didn't anticipate shite again after hiring the Amen chorus.

Ummm...maybe stop worrying about Trump and start showing respect for the anthem and what it represents?
Seems really easy to me.

As much as I have grown to dislike the NFL and as much as I loathe Roger Goodell, I still think this whole thing was beneath the office of the Presidency and Trump should have just kept out of it.
Though the trainwreck he created is fun to watch.

Groupthink. This is how the mainstream media was surprised at the election results.

It's so amazing, I can't even fathom it.
They actually had people........in a room talking to each other.........who saw the comments.........which means they saw the comments get cheered.......
Which means they knew that many in their customer base agreed with the comments
And their first and only thought wasn't.........."frick that shite.........we aren't touching it with a 10 foot pole".
Yep. I'm fricking under paid.

Think they are frantically scrambling now?
Trump should push Congress to remove their anti-trust exemption.

Yeah and they will have a PhD in Trans-gender Black History Urban Appropriations.

Yes, they have turned their protest into a patriotism test.
Just protest at some other point in the game that doesn't involve the flag and the anthem.

That's what I've never understood about the whole charade.
So you want to protest by refusing to respect/acknowledge the symbol of the country that will defend your right to protest?

Exactly. Hit them where it REALLY hurts. This needs to happen ASAP.

Ya know. I can almost understand the miscalculation on this........the first time.
When you repeat it.......and add numbers to the repetition...........even after normal run of the mill Americans say, "ya know, that shite ain't cool"...........you're giving those people a "frick you".
And make no mistake. It's not an accidental "frick you". I can guarantee you those actual words are being said as they prepare to do it again.
