New York Times Calls for ‘Godfather’ Tactics to Stop Trump’s SCOTUS Nominee

Be Prepared....
"The far-left New York Times editorial board is calling on Democrats to use mafia tactics from The Godfather to stop President Trump from filling a Supreme Court vacancy.
Using language that appears to not only condone, but to encourage violence, the editorial board writes:
Barring some unforeseen development, the president will lock in a 5-to-4 conservative majority, shifting the court solidly to the right for a generation. This is all the more reason for Democrats and progressives to take a page from “The Godfather” and go to the mattresses on this issue.
The term “going to the mattresses” means going to war.
The Urban Dictionary accurately describes the phrase as meaning “preparing for battle” within the context of a mob war, a violent mob war involving firearms, assassinations, and bombings.
The anti-Trump New York Times describes this editorial as a “call to arms” and adds that the “fire now raging against Mr. Trump and his nominees can’t be sustained indefinitely.”

I love how they talk about Trump like he’s the first president to ever have an impact on the courts. This is despite of the fact that Obama appointed countless of judges and the tactics of progressive saviors, like FDR.

Trump is fixing to destroy the democrats tactic of getting their commie strategies passed through courts by judges that go by what they want vs what’s right by constitution
This shows the spoiled brat democrat party needs SC to finish killing off this country as the globalists controlled and democrat funded MSM is showing their colors

Lol at progressives "going to the mattresses". They're so cute when they try to sound tough.

They don't want offend anyone. How will they go to the mattresses?

They use 'conservative' as a pejorative - but I have always thought 'conservative' was the equivalent of "constitutional." At least that is how I describe my principle of being 'conservative.' In fact I'd like the change the name of the GOP to "Constitutional" Party - and reject anyone who diverges from it.
SO - they are whining that the SCOTUS will be 'locked in" to being 'constitutional' by a slim margin for a generation.

Toddy thinks they mean "bite the pillows".

Well, if they do "go to the mattress," they'll lose, because we have the "My Pillow" guy on our side.

This is one that isn't going to upset me. It's clearly a figure of speech and a somewhat faulty one at that. Historically, the big shots (bosses, underbosses, consiglieres, etc.) in the Mafia have leaned towards Republicans when it comes to national politics. On a local level they will support whoever will take their money and do their bidding but on the levels they lack the ability to influence they lean conservative on economics and actually have a fairly wide streak of patriotism in their blood. Then there is that little issue with feeling double crossed by JFK and RFK that still simmers with them.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the court has mostly leaned to the right since about 1970. Why are the lefties acting like this is something out of the clear blue that has never happened before you reckon? This ain't new territory, so to speak.
There really are a lot of ignorant people on the left when it comes to actual history of this country.

Genuinely surprised its reached this point with the Court and the President's Art. II Constitutional powers, the Court was never intended to be this powerful per Hamilton's Federalist No. 78 which articulated the legislature possesses the purse, the Executive the sword, all the Court is to promulgate is judgment. Hamilton's exact words:
quote:
Whoever attentively considers the different departments of power must perceive, that, in a government in which they are separated from each other, the judiciary, from the nature of its functions, will always be the least dangerous to the political rights of the Constitution; because it will be least in a capacity to annoy or injure them. The Executive not only dispenses the honors, but holds the sword of the community. The legislature not only commands the purse, but prescribes the rules by which the duties and rights of every citizen are to be regulated. The judiciary, on the contrary, has no influence over either the sword or the purse; no direction either of the strength or of the wealth of the society; and can take no active resolution whatever. It may truly be said to have neither FORCE nor WILL, but merely judgment; and must ultimately depend upon the aid of the executive arm even for the efficacy of its judgments.
Within this same essay, Montesquieu, the Godfather of Separation of Powers theory, is quoted as stating the judiciary is the weakest of the 3 powers or "next to nothing"

Sounds to me like the NYT is calling for motherfrickers with shotguns to show up at their building. Don't start none, there won't be none.
