Michelle Wujan is shifting her priorities on crime and other issues – based on election year dynamics. After record high homicides in 2021 she is reversing course on defunding the police and pushing for 19% pay raises for state police. She conveniently lifted the states mask mandate after two years. Too little too late for over 210 restaurants that closed permanently. She has secured $107 million for first responders. She is pushing legislation to suspend the Federal gas tax. She signed House bill 163 exempting social security income from taxation. She signed legislation making college tuition free if you maintain a 2.5 GPA. She announced historic raises for teachers. She proposed legislation designating Election Day as a state holiday and allowing 16 year-olds to participate in local elections. All of this in the first two months of 2022 after we just endured over two years of NOTHING but COVID COVID COVID. None of this would be happening if not for an election year.
