One mile from NATO border.
quote:

Two German warplanes were scrambled overnight from Romania after Russia launched a large-scale missile and drone attack in Ukraine less than a mile from the NATO borderline.

quote:

Romania’s Ministry of Defense said on Wednesday that two German Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft, stationed at Romania's Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base as part of NATO's Enhanced Air Policing mission, were deployed "to monitor the air situation," but noted that this time no Russian aircraft or projectiles crossed the NATO border.

Despite last week’s talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and President Donald Trump, Moscow has continued its aerial bombardment of Ukraine, including in an overnight attack that targeted oil and port facilities in the Odesa region on and near the Danube River, which separates the Ukrainian border with the allied NATO nation of Romania.

The most noteworthy part of this is that the German fighters were actually airworthy.

I’m wondering what targets they were trying to hit one mile from the Romanian border

How insane would it be if Putin decides to attack NATO territory before this peace talk stuff completes? I think Trump would be more pissed than we’ve ever seen him.

Because until very recently their armed forces were massively underfunded and barely operational. For a while there they had trouble maintaining even a single squadron of Typhoons that could actually fly with trained pilots.

From what I've read in 2017 those 2 Eurofighter Typhoons would have represented 1/2 of their operational available Eurofighters. They must be taking this seriously.

BecausE prioritized funds were diverted to suppressing white Christians and funding entry of military aged males “guests”.

If he were sending a message he would have flown near the Polish border.

What message?

Putin can’t possibly believe he could take on the US in conventional warfare?? The war would be over in weeks with all territory returned to Ukraine if we entered the war. A couple of bombs on the Romanian border won’t change that.

*This is not an endorsement of the US military entering the war.

So where was this? There is a little piece of Ukraine that touches Romania south of Odesa on the Black Sea. And then there is a chunk of Moldova which is sandwiched between the two countries. And then to the west Romania again touches Ukraine again in the Carpathian region. But that is way south of the main action in Ukraine. Maybe Russia wants Odesa. And we know Russia is meddling in Moldova because there are "Russians" there.

There was an article a few years ago reporting that the German Air Force had some ridiculously low numbers of operational combat aircraft. I think the number was less than ten.
