because 30% of the students, are from households who "can not afford to provide lunch and childcare...

Lunches are discounted for some students who qualify, so it's almost free...so if the child has to eat at home, it will cost more.

We are officially a nanny state...I guess I take this stuff for granted, but dang, you can't feed your kid lunch? childcare? I mean figure it out!!!!

that said, I am not advocating school be closed, just found it amazing why they will likely not cancel schools. Unless of course they feel pressure from the public...which is brewing!!!

Why not have the students help wipe the school down, then continue classes...that would be more useful than letting them sit a home

The AD did just cancel my son's Golf Practice round...was to be a qualifying round for next week's tournament...I guess that will get canned too

It's 72 and clear today in NC...a perfect day to play, I told him to go practice somewhere else....I am not letting the government tell me my kid has to come home, which is what the email suggested they do..."send them home"

oh and our Governor Roy Cooper just declared a state wide emergency.

What in the hell is going on? what is the emergency?

I was wondering when someone was going to raise this.

In some places, the schools are open on weekends and the Summer, serving 1 to 3 meals per day, because they know that is the only way the kids will eat.

And, of course, their parents are too busy working or applying for jobs to watch the kids during the day.

And I assume it's safe to say that your teenagers aren't in the 30% that have to worry if they will get lunch. Expensive to you may be completely unattainable for others

Ugh; that clown. An emergency for the five people in the entire state with the virus? Insane.

Funny, that your sons golf practice was cancelled, I played here at 12 Oaks in Holly Springs this morning since the weather was so nice. It's not like golf is a game where people are on top of each other.

The panic is just crazy right now.

good point...

my point is, your children are your responsibility, period.

If you can't afford children, then don't have them...

and yet in America, we having single mothers having like 5 kids from 3 different men...

and we wonder why things never change

Sounds like a teacher’s opinion, not fact. It is, however, something that will need to be addressed in some way. I’m waiting to see what Trump is putting out tonight but these things will be done from a state, not local, level.

I have a good bit of change left in my Programs budget for this school year that I was getting ready to use on deposits for presenters and programs next year. I’m waiting to see what our school does because I can use that to supplement equipment for kids who don’t have what’s needed if we move to online classes.

I believe you are correct...

said the teacher attended a big meeting though...and apparently offered this opinion up to her class...? not sure how that conversation developed...

but Pelosi was talking about both these issues this morning

Many around the country are fed at school during the summer and given food for the weekends during the school year.

Just moved to 12 Oaks from Clayton late last year, I feel like George Jefferson. Loving the community here. Course is brutal though.

Haha; what? No Knights Play? That's a bummer.

My mother is a former teacher in the hood.

She laughed at canceling sports because these kids HAVE to come to school tk get a decent meal.

How much do you think childcare costs a month for someone who would need their kid watched while they worked a standard 9-5 salary job?
