Muslims forced to drink alcohol and eat pork in China’s ‘re-education’ camps

Omir Bekali, one among perhaps a million people reportedly arrested and held in mass re-education camps, said he was detained without trial or access to a lawyer and forced to disavow his beliefs
quote:
Mr Bekali, a Kazakh citizen, said he contemplated suicide after 20 days in the facility – which itself followed seven months in a prison.
Since spring last year authorities in Xinjiang region have confined tens or even hundreds of thousands of Muslims in the camps, including some foreign nationals. One estimate put the figure at a million or more.
quote:
“The psychological pressure is enormous, when you have to criticise yourself, denounce your thinking – your own ethnic group,” said Mr Bekali, who broke down in tears as he described the camp. “I still think about it every night, until the sun rises. I can’t sleep. The thoughts are with me all the time.”
The detention campaign has swept across Xinjiang, a territory half the area of India.
Chinese officials have largely avoided comment on the camps, but some are quoted in state media as saying that ideological changes are needed to fight separatism and Islamic extremism. Radical Muslim Uighurs have killed hundreds in recent years, and China considers the region a threat to peace in a country where the majority is Han Chinese.
quote:
The internment programme aims to rewire the political thinking of detainees, erase their Islamic beliefs and reshape their very identities. The camps have expanded rapidly over the past year, with almost no judicial process or legal paperwork. Detainees who most vigorously criticise the people and things they love are rewarded, and those who refuse to do so are punished with solitary confinement, beatings and food deprivation.

The rest of the world needs to take note. This is exactly how you handle Moslem extremism within your country’s borders. There is only one way to fight them and China knows it.

But this does make me fume (yet again) at all the people who called Bannon a quack for pushing the belief that modern day China is at the same societal inflection point as pre-WW2 Germany.
There’s plenty I don’t like about Bannon, but the dude has an eye for geopolitical trends. And the rising tide of Chinese nationalism is something we all need to take note of

No matter what you think of Muslims, no one should be okay with this.

The moral of this story -- if you ever find yourself imprisoned in China, keep screaming Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar.

Don’t stay too long, they’ll be tossing your kind in there in a few years

I guess the EU will rethink sending refugees there.

And this is exactly what the Chinese would do to about 90% of this Board, who believe that Constitutional Freedom is a God-given Right. And it's why I fear the Chinese; they are VERY ruthlessly efficient and enduring People.

Terrible...no person should be persecuted for their religious beliefs. This story should be focused towards hatred of communism.
If they want to get rid of extremism, they should cut off the head of the snake.

I don’t have a problem with the China treatment . And don’t have a problem with water boarding

Well, I'm not OK with China being a Communist country either. There is a part of western China that Islam is viewed as a problem to the China government.
The way I see it is its Godless Vs. Heretics. Both are problems.

Correct
This is a prime example of why we hate BigGov.

This is a terrible abuse of power and a prime example of why we have the Bill of Rights and especially the 1st ammendement here. I can't believe I'm seeing people comfortable with a totalitarian communist regime placing people in re-education camps.

You really think that in America it should be ok to detain someone without trial or access to a lawyer and force them disavow their beliefs? What about if the liberals win the next election, should they be able to do that to you if you don’t agree with them? If we ever did what you are suggesting the USA and every great thing about her would be dead.

I honestly don't care what happens to muslims in China. Anyone who worships a pedophile deserves to be treated like shite.

Take your pick. Because Chinese leadership is not big on any concept that ranks higher in people’s hearts than the state. And they are about to have virtually complete control of the their country
Let’s see what turn these camps take in 2020 when China’s citizen score goes into full implementation. I highly suspect Christians will received docked scores, and thereby anyone associating with them by extension. Put enough stigma on all religion and you can ‘re-educate’ any god fearing soul with the support of the majority.
