This whole exercise by Mueller and the Dems is bait for Trump to fire him, which they believe would make the public desire impeachment. Mueller will tap more phone lines, raid more offices, and destroy more lives until TRUMP can no longer resist the urge to can him.

Sessions is useless.

Can Sessions fire Mueller or Trump the only one that can?

Wait until after the midterm.

Doing it before then gives the idiots a rallying cry for November. Doing it after then means 2 years before anything significant occurs electorally.

Yep, Trump can fire both.

Said it before and I'll say it again: Sessions can step in and do an immediate audit of Mueller. He can go in with Marshalls and kick out Mueller and his whole team, can go to their houses, outside offices, etc, and take phones, computers, and anything else he wants and audit all of it for evidence of ethical transgressions, misconduct, and so forth. He has ample reason to do this already. But he won't. He's even stated that he won't allow himself to be briefed on anything related to Mueller.

Sessions is a saboteuer.

That wasn't my question and I know Trump can fire Sessions (I don't support this tho) but can Sessions fire Mueller?

Doing what, exactly? Sitting in his office chair spanking it?

He seems to have recused himself from all of his duties.

I’m not really sure what he does on a daily basis, but I can’t point to one positive thing he’s done since taking office.

To paraphrase Lincoln, “If AG Sessions is not going to use the DOJ, then I would like to borrow it for a while.”

This is what I would like to see happen. Where is our AG's fricking balls?! Whether you like Trump or not, to say that there isn't clear abuse of power from Mueller is an understatement.

What is the line of succession in the DOJ? If Sessions is fired, it could take awhile to get his replacement confirmed...

No he can not. Trump can NOT directly fire the Special Counsel, and in actuality neither can Sessions. Is this really that hard to figure out?

Sessions recused himself (which was actually a mistake, he should have named the SC himself, but he didn't , so we deal with what we deal with) The ONLY person who can fire a special counsel is the Attorney General, and in this case because of Session's recusal, Rosenstein IS the Attorney General for this purpose.

Now, Trump could do one of two things.

1. He could fire Sessions , name a new Attorney General and at that point Session's recusal in a non issue and the new AG immediately has jurisdiction over the Special Counsel.

2. Fire Rod Rosenstein and appoint a new Deputy AG, leaving Sessions in place which would still make the Deputy AG the acting AG for this particular case.

3. Of course Jeff Sessions could fire Rosenstein

Neither Sessions nor Trump can directly fire Mueller though.

its quite entertaining to see how upset you all are over this unfair witch hunt despite having zero idea of what evidence has been uncovered and said by witnesses that led to this

its amazing you all can't just say 'yeah, cohen is really shady dude. this really isnt that surprising that investigating russian contacts led to an investigation of cohen.'

I mean, you can still defend your guy. When its all said and done, i think everyone around trump will fall, but he'll be left standing without direct evidence he authorized all the shady russian meetings/contacts that happened

It goes Sessions, Rosenstein, then either the Solicitor General or Associate Attorney General.

The Solicitor General is definitely a Trump appointee.

The Associate Attorney General is currently an acting one rather than an actual appointee, though he was previously appointed to the role by Trump before being replaced.
