MSNBC Poll: Should teachers be armed
Even on a liberal news site like MSNBC, it was 69% in favor of teachers being armed.

LINK

EDIT:I knew they had to do something. It got north of 81%! They swapped the sample!!!

College Station schools have had peace officers armed with a pistol since at least '95 when I was in elementary school. Teachers shouldn't have them but officers should be present.

The best comment so far was, "911 is to report a homicide, not prevent one."

Lawful citizens can be just as effective as law enforcement officers at using firearms appropriately and effectively. I'm not in favor of handing every teacher a gun, but I'm in favor of letting any teacher who has received proper instruction carry a gun securely at school.

Looks like Broward county had five officers, armed, who refused to go into the school initially.

I don't think that posting armed guards outside of the school, when they clearly don't seem to have the training or the stones to actually protect anyone inside, is the solution.

Will never happen. Heck in the south some parents won’t like the fact that one of their kids teachers is black and carries a gun much less what if the teacher might be a gay with a gun! Aw hell naw!!

My dad is a retired police officer, and I have been able to out shoot him my entire life (it actually makes him proud). It doesn't matter if you're an "officer" to know how to properly handle/shoot a gun.

Either this or have them in a combo locked box in certain classrooms.

I don’t think we need one on every teachers hip, how many student/teacher confrontations can you find on YouTube? Plenty. A firearm being readily available in a non emergency is not a good idea IMO. Maybe a select few teachers can carry, with more than a basic course.

I’m for having guns on campuses, just not on your average teachers hip.

Probably the best argument that I've read. I agree that a combination box could be a solution to the teacher-student confrontation issue.

I think folks would be surprised at the number of teachers who would want to get training to have access to a firearm incase of a dire situation.

You people don’t know shite. It is allowed in 20 states already. 157 schools districts in Texas have armed teachers. Another 150 school districts have their own police forces.

The teachers could each have a gun safe in their classroom. It wouldn’t be that hard snd would be easy to install.

I’m calling you out on this - where do you live?

I grew up in the south, all my family lives in the south and your statement is exactly what I would expect out of someone from California or Illinois that has never set foot in the south. Your statement is ignorant and pathetic.

If a teacher has a CC permit, then the schools could install one of these in their classroom.

Calling out the wrong person. Lived in the south my whole life and selma for 20 of those years. I know exactly how both sides think and react. There is nothing false about my statement unfortunately.

Who says the teacher would carry the gun on their hip where everyone can see it?

They would carry the gun in a shoulder holster so that no one knows they are carrying it.

If the gun is concealed then maybe a student would think twice before starting a fight with any teacher.
