Probably enough to cover the fricking costs of the selfless heroes who sacrificed their bodies to save everyone they possibly could while you sat in your lounge chair sipping champagne and talking of how horrible the attack is and that you want justice

100% agree. First responders should not have to foot the bill for their health problems due to 9/11. That should be directly paid for by FEDGOV. However, like with most bills, rarely does all the money get to the people that need it.

The bills for these first responders should go directly to the government. And the government should pay it. It should not go to a "fund" and then disbursed how some bureaucrat sees fit.

If my understanding is correct, the "fund" is essentially a payer like insurance. A doctor determines if your illness qualifies. You see an approved doctor for your 9/11-related illness, any treatment for the illness is paid for from the fund.

re: Mr. Stewart Goes to Washington
Admittedly not following this but my first question is this: What happened to their workers comp? Is it somehow like most/all insurance policies that do not cover an act of war? I do not recall seeing that in workers comp laws but could be. If so, and no coverage outside of federal, I can see it.

Thanks.

not to sound uncaring, but you sign up for a job like that and don't expect that bad things could happen? It seems like the dangers of the job are already factored in to the pay and benefits

Yeah, the infantry in the Army have that "possibility of being blown up and shot in the face and/or possibly tortured and beheaded" rate factored into their $35,000 salary.

Yes, some jobs pay a "hazard" rate, but not very many at all. I pretty sure the PD and FD do not have these hazard rates factored into their salary.

Oh, I know as I see it right now on my tv. "We were in a war!"

Play to those feelings boys while thousands of others around the country don't get the same specialized treatment you do.

Go frick yourself. This is one of the most despicable posts I’ve ever seen on here. Go tell this to a 9/11 first responder or to a family member that lost someone on 9/11 whether it be on that day or the health affects from being there.

re: Mr. Stewart Goes to Washington

So let me get this straight - the government said the air was safe to breathe, so now we want the government to be the ones to care for them? That makes no sense.

Let’s look at this from corporate perspective: let’s say there’s a chemical leak in a factory, and the owners said it’s safe to walk in there unprotected to fix the leak, but isn’t safe and they all get rare cancer. What the frick do you think would happen to that corporation?

Our government gives billions in aid and weapons every year to Saudi Arabia, the country most responsible for 9/11. They don't give a shite.

And we give 20 billion dollars a year in foreign aid to fricking Pakistan which willingly harbored America’s greatest enemy since fricking Hitler. Anyone against taking care of the first responders is either a complete idiot or a sociopath.

And 9/11 was even worse than that since it was an act of war. If this country is obligated to protect one group of people, it’s the people who put their lives on the line to save us from evil warlords who want to kill us all.

Not a fan of black humor? I thought that was hilarious and a major kick in the balls to idiots like BuckyCheese.
