For what its worth, Ground Zero was given a Federal Disaster Declaration.

And lol at you for arguing that 9/11 was just some local event that should only be resolved by local government.

This has been gone over, and over.

What part of FEDERAL EMERGENCY and then saying it was safe don’t you understand?

Why is it that we automatically assume the government should give us free stuff any time we need help instead of relying on neighbors, friends, and private donations for things like this

Go ask Katrina victims this and see what they say.

Can't believe the bs posts in this thread.

To be fair, victims of Katrina were given ample warnings to leave and were told how bad the storm would be and several stayed anyway, expecting the government to come to their rescue. I think if there’s one thing we should have learned from Katrina it’s that the federal government is largely incompetent and inefficient. FEMA created more problems than it solved.

Walt it amazes me that some of the people in this thread are actually siding with the terrorists.

Pretty disgusting.

not to sound uncaring, but you sign up for a job like that and don't expect that bad things could happen? It seems like the dangers of the job are already factored in to the pay and benefits.

Do you feel the same way about our military veterans who signed up for the job, expecting bad things to happen?

This is what kills me.

The largest and bloodiest attack on American soil since Pearl Harbor and these idiots are arguing that compensation for the victims should be administered locally.

These are on the job injuries. The government (EPA and others) said the air was safe to breathe.

It wasn’t.

This can’t be repeated enough.

Why did that dirty air only impact first responders?

I'm not arguing against funding their care, I'm pointing out the politicization of yet another non-political situation. Such is the way of depraved people, but it's annoying here.

Lower Manhattan was not abondoned but for first responders. Where is the extraordinary increase in cancer and illness among the general public? Where is the emotional plea to congress for cancer patients from Manhattan who were just residents or workers in the area? Why is the EPA claim of air quality in Manhattan at large being applied to an hour after the towers fell, in the middle of ground zero?

Politics. Shameful politics.

It didn’t.

The rest shows your ignorance on the subject.

I do not know what it’s going to take for this country to understand, our overlords in D.C. do not give one single iota of a frick about us unwashed masses out here that sent them to that city of sodom and Gomorrah in the first place.

~20% of enrollees in the World Trade Center Health Program are classified as "survivors" vs. ~80% who are listed as "responders". So to answer your first question...it didn't only impact first responders.

Yes, I'm aware those who survived the attack would be impacted by its fallout. For the purposes of the point, they are one in the same with first responders.

The EPA did not declare the air around people covered in debris and building rubble clean. It's political hackery in a situation that does not deserve it.

re: Mr. Stewart Goes to Washington
Still wrong. Got the timeline wrong.

EPA: On September 13, 2001, just two days after the attacks, the agency issued a press release in which it explained "sampling of bulk materials and dust found generally low levels of asbestos. The levels of lead, asbestos and volatile organic compounds in air samples taken Tuesday in Brooklyn, downwind from the World Trade Center site, were not detectable or not of concern."¹ A September 18, 2001 press release was even more confident, quoting then-EPA Administrator Christine Todd Whitman: "Given the scope of the tragedy from last week, I am glad to reassure the people of New York and Washington, DC that their air is safe to breathe and their water is safe to drink."²

Bob, I can’t believe you and I are on the same side of discussion.

I can’t believe some of these people don’t believe the country owes these hero’s compensation to pay for medical costs associated with the attack on The United States.

Even a Libertarian believes it’s the role of the Federal Gov’t to defend the borders.

Some of you have clearly never been to the 911 memorial and are disgusting anti-American pieces of work... and you know what... These mofo badasses that ran into burning buildings still would have saved your sorry asses because they are truly some of the greatest Americans. It is our DUTY to honor and take care of those that came to rescue those from an act of War.
