Movement for app based voting

There was an idiot alter troll talking up online voting last night. It did not go well for him.
Hackable.
No proof of ID.
Today’s voting apps for shows and reality TV are abused to be able to vote numerous times.
All around, terrible idea.

It's like they want a foreign power to hack an election

It’s like these idiots want to make it possible for people to hack our elections (since it’s not possible now) so they can scream and cry about how they were right.

This is a terrible idea all around..

Another thing I like is how it’s racist and not possible for poor blacks and hispanics to get a free ID for voter ID laws but they all would somehow have access to smart phone apps.

Whatever it takes to get voter participate rate over 100%.

This is, in fact, not a new idea. Mathematicians and computer scientists have written papers on potential crypto voting schemes for decades.
I don't think it's a bad idea *if* it is secure voting. Indeed, it would be better than what we have now actually (where the Dems magically pull ballots out of a car trunk at the last minute).
Pros:
1) Can vote anywhere.
2) The voter can personally ensure his vote is counted and tabulated (homomorphic encryption allows this).
3) Tamper proof. No one at polling place can pull shenanigans since they cannot decrypt anything.
4) Can ensure only people on registration rolls can vote (this system doubles as voter ID).
5) Polling place can post the results online for the public to check. No names will be attached to any particular vote, so the secret ballot is upheld.
Cons:
1) Coercion. If you vote at home, you can always claim your MAGA gun loving spouse held his AR to your head and forced you to vote for Trump (however, this problem already exists with absentee ballots, so I don't think it's a big concern).
2) Lost keys. If you lose the card with your voting key on it, then you're SoL. I can see this being a big issue on voting day and there wont be any quick way to reissue a new key. In person voting doesn't have this problem - you just walk in and vote.
3) There will always be conspiracy theories. "What if the Chinese figured out a way to break the crypto?" While it's highly unlikely anyone can break modern crypto, there is always that 0.000001% chance they did. It's possible in theory, just very, very, very hard.
4) Public wont understand how the system works. You'd need a degree in discrete mathematics to understand it. And since most academics are libs, the right would never trust their peer review of such a system.

Let's see, I just bought a new smart phone, it has a nifty little feature that requires a fingerprint to access it.
So that 100% would make sure that short of cutting a person's finger off, the person accessing the phone is who they say they are, IF the state you lived in had everyone's fingerprints on file, and no state does that currently.
The next hurdle would be making sure those who voted were citizens but of course the app could simply disallow anyone who's fingerprints were tied to citizens, so that's doable.
The next hurdle is of course keeping the database secure, and on that front I don't even trust that our own government wouldn't be hacking in trying to change votes, let alone foreign governments.

We need a better system that employs technology, but this proposal is clearly not the answer.
The answer is biometrics. Rather than a photo ID, voting stations should employ multiple biometrics: facial recognition, fingerprints, retinal scans, etc.
Mail in ballots should be abolished. Each precinct should have a mobile team to visit those with mobility issues.

I'll add, voter registration is antiquated system. There is no need for that. You show up, you show your ID, if it is valid, and you are eligible to vote in that precinct you vote, if not, you don't vote. If you've already voted, go away. If you moved and didn't get your ID changed, too bad, you should have taken care of that.

Printing fake ballots is getting to be too expensive for the DNC.

So I guess Putin is in the app development business now

Nah, it's easy to fake the fingerprints and get access to the smartphone. For instance, find something the guy touched, lift his fingerprint, then attach it to the phone. There's videos online showing how it's done.
Fingerprint scanners were never meant to deter a serious adversary.
