There's a good article in the New York Times about some of the things that were going on behind the scenes during the second Kavanaugh hearing.
McConnell comes across as the gangsta that we already knew he was.

NYT Article

quote:

At one point, a dubious Mr. Trump asked Mr. McConnell if Senate Republicans were really committed to seeing it through. Mr. McConnell said absolutely yes.

quote:

“I’m stronger than mule piss” on this guy, he answered.

And the final word from Cocaine Mitch:

quote:

“The tactics that were used completely backfired,” said Mr. McConnell. “Harassing members at their homes, crowding the halls with people acting horribly, the effort to humiliate us really helped me unify my conference. So I want to thank these clowns for all the help they provided.”

Now let’s see Cocaine Mitch and Pals keep up the energy and fight to MAGA. No retreating into their shells again.

I think there is a LOT to this.

The left thought publicly protesting like that would sway people. And, they were right. They gave the Republicans in the Senate an up close and personal view of what the left is really like. without the filter it would normally come through.

THEN, they saw fricking SENATORS parroting the shite happening in the hallways. I think the light bulb went on. "Those folks in the halls aren't the "radical left"......they're the left!!!"

The Trump effect is inspiring. Trump is responsible for a US resurgence in global power and influence that has reversed a trend which favored our advisories. Trump has extended our hedgemony another 50 years.

The principle of innocent until proven guilty is what made Mitch strong. The tyranny of guilty until proven innocent lost. America won.

Everything else is chaff and circumstance.

Trumpettes love McConnell at the moment, because he did his usual efficient job pursuing his agenda. In a few weeks, he will do the same efficient job on an issue on which he is not aligned with Trump, and the dimwits will hate him again.

I do agree, but SCOTUS is, and always has been, my most important issue

Mitch has earned a lot of goodwill with me

He'd just about have to be the 67th vote in the Senate to remove Trump to lose it

I still have my doubts about both him and Graham...but you cannot deny that both came out breathing fire in this case.

Democrats, you keep poking the wrong bears.

You still don't get it do you? We can still argue amongst ourselves to hopefully come to a conclusion for the greater good. You assholes are all for one for ideology only.

That's why you are losing with Trump in the Oval Office but carry on, we're enjoying the victories.

Always interesting to read about the behind the scenes gyrations that go in in a situation like this.
