Misleading Polling

I received a polling call yesterday.
While I can't quote the exact question they used, it went something like this;
"statistics show Louisiana with the lowest job growth throughout the country under Gov. Edwards. Do you strongly agree or somewhat agree?"
How can you "agree" or even disagree with statistics. It is what it is. Why ask a question of whether I "strongly agree" or "somewhat agree" with a fact supported by data?
This is not a rant on how job growth is trending in LA. It's about this terrible polling question.
I don't think politicians think much of me by submitting these polling questions.

that is a strange survey question for sure.
maybe they're trying to get a feel for how well certain talking points are spreading, or how well they are understood?
doesn't seem like a great use of survey resources or effort though.

I got the same call. There were many questions similar to that where they would refer to statistics or data and then ask if you agreed or disagreed. They read quotes from advertisements and asked if I agreed or disagreed with the statement from the ad.

I got a call about 3 months ago where I was asked if I supported Eddie Rispone for Governor. When I said that I did, the dude asking the questions answered with, “nice!!”

This.
It's not even for data, it's basically a campaign ad veiled as a poll.

Liberals love to disagree with facts that do not support their agenda.

There's no law of physics that makes your nervous system always paint accurate representations of reality.
For example: A recent poll I saw asked people two questions.
1.) Do you think the US economy is doing better than it was 5 years ago?
2.) What news channel do you watch most?
Obviously the answer to question 1 is yes. But, the results showed how you answered the second question drastically effected how you answered the first.

Because even if your beliefs are incorrect, they still influence how you behave (and vote).
