Notice that in this CNN image, CNN uses this fracaso to blame Trump.

quote:

San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz has repeatedly attacked President Donald Trump over the U.S. government's response in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, even as 12 million bottles of water were discovered this week rotting on an airport runway in Puerto Rico.

BuzzFeed News reports that "Justo Hernández, deputy federal coordinating officer of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), told reporters that the 19,841 pallets of water were left on the runway at José Aponte de la Torre Airport and that as a result, 'some of that water was spoiled.'"

The revelation comes at roughly the same time that Yulin Cruz appeared on CNN to bash Trump and also attacked the president in a series of tweets this week.

WHy don't some of the people help distribute the water?

They have nothing else to do right?

No power or electricity.

Put them to work handing out the water

Absolutely it can, over time the plastic leeches into the water, turning it into poison. The heat makes the plastic softer accelerating this process. It's best to just dispose of that water at this point.

Regular bottled water plus sun exposure will eventually start to grow bacteria and algae on the inside

Someone needs to send CNN my other thread on FEMA functions.

Disaster Reponse is largely the responsibility of the state and local communities. FEMA reimburses them afterward so they don’t go bankrupt, but also provides funds and training for them to be prepared.

They can coordinate essentials like water and MREs. But the local community has to distribute. FEMA is NOT in every community.

I would assume that nobody within FEMA nor the PR govt was so inept that they just left this here when people were in need of potable water. Hopefully it was just excess and not needed.

Also, if Trump is responsible for this, then Obama was responsible for Lois Lerner. fair is fair.

Add the water with the trailers full of food that rotted at distribution centers and all the supplies that were pilfered by politicians to curry favor with their loyalists....PR is a 3rd World Shithole lead by corrupt politicians. It will remain so until the populace wakes up and decides they deserve better.

This is not true. FEAM will respond everywhere. They will handle logistics through cooperation with other Govt entities IF REQUESTED BY THE LOCALS. If not, they will operate as you described.

I mean, its been a year. The only reason they needed water in the first place was due to power outage and the desalination plants couldn't pump water through their normal water distribution system. Assuming the power is back up (after a year) access to potable water should be fine.

They should pour all that bottled water in their clean water basins at their desal plants and send the plastic bottles to Patagonia to make fleece jackets. The libs will pay big bucks for those fleeces. It will sooth their island guilt.

They will respond “everywhere” yes, but did you notice that most of those ESFs - when activated - are “coordinating” roles? That’s like a few people. They don’t have a massive work force that can flood a community.

And as for hardware - FEMA generally doesn’t have those assets. They coordinate them. And most of them again - are local (firefighting).

One thing I always remember after Katrina: some WWL people were interviewing some fisherman rebuilding a house in Lafitte maybe a week after Katrina. They asked about the slow government response in the area. Ole baw responded with “wut, why do we need them? We can rebuild this house just fine ourselves.”
