Sweden did not do this out of libertarian zeal, but because of a tradition of listening to experts and health authorities, who thought it better to track individual cases within the country than to shut everything down. When everybody is awaiting the latest epidemiological data to make decisions, there is less room for political grandstanding and strongman rhetoric.

They're secretly hoping their immigration folly wipes out the immigrants and they can get back to being Sweden.

What if you can’t track individual cases? It grows exponentially. That’s where we are.
The lock downs are designed to limit/reduce spread while testing is put in place so that’s exactly what we can do when the quarantine is lifted.
Their strategy only works if you can execute it. We couldn’t. But we’re trying to get there.

I don't think a lot of people here would like the rest of that article
In fact the entire thing is basically a condemnation of Trump supporter policies on immigration

So you’re telling me it’s possible to take serious action against the virus, testing many people and quarantining people who get it, but also leaving it up to businesses and individuals to respond to the virus personally without shutting down the economy?
You can do both?!?!? I’ve been told millions will die unless we tank the economy

We have the same amount of cases per capita and lower deaths per capita.
But other countries in Northern Europe are shutting down and they're also capable of tracking individual cases.
Why isn't Sweden?

Good to know, but I’m not sure it’s relevant in this convo

I don’t know why anyone would do mass quarantine of you can test and do trace investigations and isolated quarantines.
But I do know we tried it early on and lost control. Didn’t have tests. Etc. plus trace investigation is labor intensive. Requires lots of case investigators.

My guess is Sweden is just behind us a few weeks, or really can do investigations. If it’s the latter - there are likely multiple reasons. Maybe they are better prepared with more testing. Maybe they have less net travelers which are fewer seeds requiring investigations.
Complex question

All threads concerning Sweden should have obligatory pics of the Swedish Bikini Team.

WGAS?
The author is also bending over backwards trying to get premptive talking points in order in case the Swedes are actually successful.Like this little gem of scientific analysis.
quote:
And by the way, it might help that Sweden is a country of introverts, famous for distant relations between generations. Swedes did social distancing before it was cool.
Wow, amazing conclusion.
If this works for the Swedes you'll see the MSM either bury this or pretend it's a "unique cultural situation"

Stop attacking the disgruntled boomer narrative that this quarantine is some partisan, calculated overreaction perpetrated by liberals and the mainstream media.
Also, it's best to ignore that they're comparing the strategies of countries that never let the cat out of the bag to our strategy once the cat was out of the bag.

It's amazing how the lib media has drummed testing in your brain.
If you went to the dr and had the test done, they would tell you to stay home.
If your showing symptoms you should do that without being tested.

They will fare probably pretty well since they don't have MSNBC and CNN broadcasting their bullshite nightly.
