If you could somehow extrapolate 15 of them to several million you wouldn't need anything extra.

True but I cannot see a scenario where you could wrap that many tightly enough to cause that kind of explosion... right now, I am going with a baby milk factory and the powered milk with a static discharge caused it all...

I love the fireworks that got into the fertilizer scenario that was floated above though...

No way that was conventional munitions (air dropped bomb or missile). That building had to be a fireworks storage facility or something to that effect.

Yet another example of how multiculturalism is almost always doomed to fail.

But in this case, the situation in Lebanon was relatively peaceful under both Mamluk and Ottoman rule, and all the various groups are native to the region, with much of the Lebanese population currently linked to ancient Canaanite (and Phoenician) populations thorough DNA data. There was very little movement of large populations through the area, and very little admixture between the ruling groups and the population at large. The terrain helped create smaller, relatively orphaned communities of various minorities. Barkey points out the triumph of the Ottoman administrative system, which was based loosely on earlier Roman and Byzantine models of polities, which resulted in a hands-off, administrative approach which gave groups autonomy as long as tax receipts were paid. Indeed, the Ottomans at times claimed the mantle of the Byzantine Empire, as Suleiman the Magnificent took on the title of Kaiser, as well as a full name (Sultan Sleyman Han bin Selim Han bin Bayezid Han) which reflected the heterodox religious traditions of the subjects. The millet system itself was designed on the explicit protection of religious minorities (in the sense that it served as a set of institutionalized procedures between the imperial administration and each religious minority group) that varied depending on the desires of each minority group. This is not to say that the millet system was perfect, but the imperial administration system of both the Ottomans and the Austrian Empires (but not the Hungarian portion) were extremely effective at dealing with the sundry minority groups they ruled.

That situation devolved towards the latter days of the Ottoman Empire, when Turkish nationalism, inspired by nationalist movements in Europe, began to take hold, and undid the millet system. That, combined with the subsequent French Mandate, set the stage for the conflict later, as the demographic balance was tilted by refugees from the Israel-Palestine conflict. So I don't see multiculturalism as a source, but rather the mass movement of people in a relatively quick fashion, which is a common, prevailing cause of unrest in numerous geopolitical hotspots, of which Lebanon is now one.

Didn't say it was but it could have been an ammunition or bomb plant and would make more sense than simply a fireworks storage facility...

Not sure if the original fire was at a fireworks plant or a munitions dump but I can believe the part where it is said that nitrogen based fertilizer stored near the area caught fire and went up.

Reddish Brown color to me spells Nitrogen Tetraoxide. Oxidizer used in rocket propellant.

The mushroom cloud forms outside of the factory. There is no question that was an atomic bomb. That is a controlled detonation.

If every firework went off at the same time it wouldn’t do that. A fireworks factory exploding wouldn’t blow out windows 10 miles away.

Reminds me of the Christmas Eve explosion at Exxon circa 1989.

The saving grace there was that the company had already bought up large chunks of the area bordering the facility to serve as a buffer. And yet they still had to pay out a ton for shattered windows and other damage in NBR.

Christ what a retard.

Mushroom cloud doesn’t mean nuke, it means an explosion over a certain level. And having multiple tons of nitrate fertilizer go off could do it.
