I agree with your assessment and would also point out that I am pretty sure (actually 100% sure) regardless of what Trump does or does not do the Democrats would push court reform if and when they garnish the appropriate power level.
The threats they make today don't matter because they plan on doing it anyhow.
We should strike first and play their game better than they do.

Yeah, lets add more unaccountable, lifetime appointments at a position that costs taxpayers more than a million dollars each per year (salary, security, perks).

Dems have laid out the gameplan. (1) Eliminate the Filibuster. (2) Pack the courts, beginning with SCOTUS moving from 9 to as many as 15 seats, then move to lower courts. (3) Admit DC and Puerto Rico as states to add 4 Dem Senate seats.
