Columbus day, to many Italians, is like St Patrick's day to many Irish. The Italian community is very unhappy about the Lib's push to abolish their traditional Holiday.

Dems keep shooting themselves in the foot.

Columbus day was pushed by the Italians when they were marginalized in society much like the Irish.

You'd think libs would be defending Columbus day...but no, marginalized people who are no longer a discreet and insular minority are now just white privileged

We had a black President, I guess it's time to get rid of MLK holiday...that's the equivalent of their thinking. Your people have made it, you don't need a holiday anymore.

The goal posts keep getting shifted on the left...the oppressed don't even know if they're oppressed anymore. New victims on the horizon to take their place and send them to the privileged zone.

the Lib's push

This issue has nothing to do with parties. Only a real piece of shite would still support Columbus Day as a holiday. I’m of Italian descent and a Republican and I’ve been celebrating Indigenous Peoples’ Day as long as it’s been a thing. People like Columbus should not be celebrated. There isn’t a middle ground here.

North and South America both celebrate Columbus Day.

It’s just busy idiots like you in your water brained fringe sect that think you’re onto some patriotic utopian repair.

You say this has nothing to do with parties, but this stupidity is 100% leftist politics.

Indigenous peoples day is only “a thing” to you. Not really anyone else. Christopher Columbus doesn’t come, US probably doesn’t come.

Should be renamed "First-in-Line" Day.

The pre-Columbus people of North America were not indigenous, they just got here earlier.

Columbus day isn't political. American liberals, who hate Western civilization, turned it into a political debate. Columbus day is, has, and always will be an Italian American holiday.

Columbus day was conceived by italian-Americans at a time when Italian immigrants were struggling to be accepted into American society. Italian immigrants needed a hero to look up to so they chose the world's greatest navigator, a fellow Italian named Cristoforo Columbo.

Italian immigrants had many great Italians to choose for their day: Raphael, DaVinci and Volta, among many others. But Italians choose a famous Italian that represented their situation and struggles, and who better than Columbus? Like Italian immigrants, Christopher Columbus left his homeland and traveled halfway around the world to parts unknown in search of a better life.

For all of the liberals' pontificating about diversity, Columbus is the model. Columbus' legacy is of one who opened up trade and travel to the diverse nations of the world.

The lasting legacy of Columbus' discovery of the New World is immeasurable. His discovery gave rise to diverse nations, commerce, Freedom, and immense wealth, for ALL nations.

Columbus was the New World's first immigrant and set forth the foundation for many immigrants to follow.

Viva Cristoforo Columbo. Siamo per sempre grati!

MLK was a rampant womanizer, plagiarized his doctorate and was a not-so-unwitting pawn of the Soviet Union.

He was also one leader of a massive movement that included black churches, scads of NAACP chapters, ACLU, white (true) liberals, etc. The fact that he was assassinated amplified his impact (as did JFK and, to a lesser degree, RFK).

His day represents that movement.

Sure there is - it's called Columbus Day.

How long has it been a thing and how do you celebrate? A follow up question, how many generations do you have to go back to be considered indigenous?
