i haven't really looked at what was passed but today was nothing but a 3 week extension, was it not? how does that help or hurt either side?
C'mon shake your a smart guy.
The dems and pubs were at the card table one side bluffed and then folded. What does that tell you of the hand they were playing with?
I don't know what will happen next game but only the pubs are sitting with a pile of chips right now.

when the right took all 3, my most reasonably optimistic scenario was that they'd pass some horrid legislation, the country would turn away in disgust and then give power back to the left where it belongs.
but they cant even manage to pass their horrid legislation, they cant even do that right. they completely control the agenda, they can go nuclear and pass literally anything they want, they could probably rename the country if they felt like it...
yet after just 1 year we're at the point where they can barely even keep the government open, and even THAT is considered a success. the mere act of NOT fricking up is now laudable.
jesus fricking christ.
i cant stop smiling.

So if its the same game (minus the CHIP funding) how is it a win for either side?

In addition to showing middle of the road, working class Americans that they care more about illegal immigrants than American citizens, they’ve completely demoralized and angered the far left base that controls their party by caving so badly. Other than the tax bill, this may be Trump’s biggest Political victory so far.

Can you post this at the beginning of every post you make?
It would help move things along better I think

It showed me obvious lack of leverage the Dems have. It means a final deal will have funding for the wall, limits to the lottery, and reform regarding chain migration.
Of course this is assuming you can get a deal in the Senate that could actually pass in the House. Dems will have to be willing to concede all the above, but if they are and the deal can't get passed the House for not being conservative enough it won't be a good look for the GOP.
Democrats definitely lost this skirmish but we've got a couple of battles left to fight.

When it come up again, the Democrats have more leverage because they can say their backs are against the wall because DACA is about to run out.
McConnell has stated publicly that he will put DACA in the mix in 3 weeks. If the Republicans gum up DACA too much (like putting in all the stuff on your wish list), it will look like the Republicans acted in bad faith promising to bring DACA back up.
I know it will hurt your ears to hear this, but DACA has more support than a 2,000 mile Great Wall of Trump.

What exactly did they win? It all starts over again in 3 weeks.
They won what they were asking for. A clean extension.
The Dems said "no extension without DACA" on the bill. Then Dems said, "ok, well we'll go ahead and give you a clean extension if you promise to address DACA".
GOP says - yep. We already have been working on DACA and will continue to do so before it expires in March.
GOP got what they wanted. A clean bill.
Dems wanted DACA in the CR and didn't get it. But instead got a "promise" for something that was already being done.
So you tell me who won?

Democrats have no answer to POTUS Trump.

All of my "wish list" (guess what, definitely not my wish list) is going to be part of a final deal. Dems want DACA, that's what it'll cost. I want greatly expanded legal immigration but since that isn't a political possibility, I'll happy settle for the deal with all those republican demands.
The Gambit now for the Dems is to have the GOP overplay it's hand on the house side, not be able to reach an immigration deal and have the republicans really have to own the subsequent shutdown and force them into primary challenges because they didn't keep all immigrants out or have them let a government shutdown fester.

Yeah, it really doesn't since a wall probably won't be worth the cost and I want a DACA fix...

A clean bill for three weeks funding?
Surely you jest.

They should get used to it. They will be losing to Our President a lot these next seven years.
re: Make no mistake, Democrats lost big todayPosted by gthog61 on 1/22/18 at 7:50 pm to MastrShake
I cannot believe the fricking leftists who pretend the senate doesn't have a 60 vote requirement.
When the entire bloc of dems almost always votes in lockstep THEY are the cause of any shutdown when at least 9 are needed to avoid it.
Leftists keep spouting this stupid shite like they don't realize there is a filibuster rule.

The hysterical part of that sentence...swap the words right and left...and you just perfectly described what happened after the Dems took control in 2009.
