France has slashed its contentious wealth tax and introduced a flat rate on capital gains as president Emmanuel Macron used his first budget to unleash business-friendly policies aimed at attracting investors and revitalising the eurozone’s second-largest economy. The French parliament on Tuesday adopted a package of measures for 2018 that included scrapping the wealth levy on everything except property assets — in effect cutting the tax by 70 per cent. A 30 per cent flat tax rate will also be introduced on capital gains, dividends and interests — a longstanding demand from investors and entrepreneurs. The tax cuts, which fulfil promises made on the campaign trail, were seized on by Mr Macron’s political opponents as further evidence that he was the “president of the rich”.

As people said during the election, Macron was more conservative than lepen on almost every issue

He's been a very pleasant surprise.

Well the word “conservative” is a misnomer here. Macron is pro-business candidate. LePen was a working class candidate. LePen opposed the cuts.

True, tough to put a single descriptor on it

That would be a hell of a turnaround. I didn't know pol was pro-EU, centrist who was compared to previous French centrists like Bayrou (who supported Macron and got a cabinet position). A lot of what he hasn't been what one would think /pol/ would support.

Because they aren't conservative. While some may be, as a whole they don't give a shite about economics

Because french economics doesn't affect them.
Macron may be a good guy but lets not kids ourselves here; France is still in big, big trouble with demographics and the islamization of western Europe and not doing enough to stop that.
if things don't improve soon, we're headed for a new crusade.

These comments?
These are mostly pedestrian comments, unless you are looking for a soundbite. In fact, outside of the off-hand comments about children, he's not only right, but also asking for large scale international (meaning rich-countries) intervention.
It is very interesting that he's ignoring France's role, both historical and contemporary in Africa.

If that's their direction, they deserve it. America first...

But it isn't. In 1997 French demographics predicted that France would be 20% of Muslim, because it was predicated on the idea that birth rates in the Islamic world were somehow immune to the typical course of development. The actual number of French Muslims was less than 10%. And guess what has happened to the birth rates of numerous MENA countries who have experienced relative peace? They have plummeted and are continuing to plummet. This actually portends a major problem for those MENA countries.
The problem with this board is that they have barely been paying attention to France, and so assumed the refugee crisis and the French assimilation and integration issues were one in the same. The refugee crisis did affect France in terms of the attacks (not in actual numbers, as the US took in more than France had applicants), but the trouble in the French case is integrating North African youths, many Algerian, and that problem has existed since the 1960s.
