Also, the above article says he's a Texas native...which is it, TX or LA?

He went to college in Texas, born in Shreveport.

I saw an Army MAJ get one in Iraq because he gave away the most CERP money.

Things have obviously changed a little since my retirement.

Early deployments were different, but then it became a way to separate the favored from the unfavored. Best example: I know of an Army Officer that did something in pre-deployment activities that was questioned by his superiors. He performed at the highest-level during deployment but was not awarded the BS when the rest of his unit was awarded the medal. It followed him in his post deployment career from a promotion standpoint. Promotion Boards are PC as any Military Organizations.

That's fine, but there's a difference between a BSM and a BSV.

If this ^^^ soldier is the anti Austin I’m ecstatic he was promoted……but if he’s a clone of this POS ….not good.

JFC.

My best friend Lonny bled out in the middle of a street in fallujah and received a PH. No one asked, as far as I know, if he deserved a BS for his actions that led to his death.

End of Tour Awards absolutely destroy units. Even units that went hard and had each other’s back.

As a Company Commander with 142 guys I was told I could do 4 BS for service. 2 enlisted 2 officer. I submitted 74 and it cost me my BS!!!

After I got hurt and rotated back stateside, before they retired me, I got drunk one night and tore up the parade grounds with my 4x4. It took me the better part of two days with a shovel to put it back the way I found it. I guess that's why I only got a second NAM when they handed me my discharge....

The retired SgtMaj that was in charge of the parade grounds wanted my skin on a wall. Thankfully, my service for the ten years prior was good enough to save my hide.

DOD tried to rein in the awards, but it was too late. It took an Army Times article to expose the problem. Then they went to the other extreme.

I'm sure it was totally on merit alone

Explain why you would say this? Would you have even commented about a white Louisiana native becoming a 4 star general in the marine corps? Why are you questioning this man’s merits and qualifications. Eagerly awaiting the response you likely won’t post…

I don’t give a frick what color he is if he’s the best qualified for the job. Only leftists fixate on color.
I can't imagine being a black person in 2022 getting excited that a black person does something white people have been doing for decades. It has that "man bites dog" vibe.

You're asking me why, in an administration that has openly stated that their main goal is to promote or appoint as many non-white, non-male people in the government as possible, I wouldn't believe this guy earned this on merit alone?

The administration overtly said they're promoting/appointing people based on skin color, so I'll go ahead and take them at face value.

Salty, my grandfather turned 17 as a marine on the island of Peliliu. He got a bs and ph for driving a truck thru jap fire to deliver water to marines cut off. He told me they should have gave a bs to everyone for eating maggots and rice.
