Wonder what makes Oregon such an outlier on the suicide portion (edit: change that to Montana. I need my eyes checked)

Also no coincidence that Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana suck at every other such metric. It's the populace.

Look at the geographic size of the state and ponder for a moment that it only has 1 area code.

I'd imagine you can get pretty secluded there.

Here's another last place for La. - Miss. and Ark. ain't far behind.

As a percentage of household incomes, the cost of private, job-based health coverage last year was more expensive in La. at a cost of $419 of median household incomes.

I'm sure JBE has this in his cross hairs.

His re-election will cement that one for years to come. Vote of confidence for the trial lawyers (and message for the already corrupt judges) and fewer people with jobs and insurance, meaning the decreasing number of payers will be charged more and more to pay for Bel’s voters to enjoy their free ride. I can’t leave here soon enough

I hear you, I’ve got 3 yrs left myself. I’ll be curious to see the new statewide economic development comparison over the next 4 yrs between La and MS

Louisiana would be a good state for testing some common sense gun control measures.

Look up the homicides and see how many were committed with legally owned guns and then get back to us.

It’s too damned cold for too damned long to kill yourself any other way.

I wonder if they’re overall suicide rate is significantly different than the norm.

ETA- Looks like everyone is depressed in that region of the country...

The Mountain West states have some of the highest rates of depression and suicide in the nation. Utah had the highest rate of major depression in 2017, followed by New Mexico. Montana had the highest suicide rate in 2016, followed by Alaska, Wyoming, New Mexico and Utah.

Ding! Ding! Ding! And now let us view it by zip code and narrow it down even more.
