In the short term, is he right?

The savings that come from cuts to military spending are going saved for future debt payments, not sent back into economy

Say what you want, but a lot of industry relies on the material demand of the military, and military employs lots of people

Cutting it by say 10 billion is in the short term shrinking economy by 10 billion

Money sitting in a coffer waiting to be spent on interest payments is economically useless, and that's where the 10 bill would go

I dont see a difference between this and congressional pork barrel spending. Its a subsidy to special interest groups.

People like Lindsey Graham are the reason why we have $400 billion interest payments on our debt. And how much of our military spending is corporate welfare for defense contractors anyway? We should be trimming the fat in every type of federal spending, military included. I loathe that queen.

Well now if this is the big government, big spending, uniparty mentality people have been clamoring about, then I can see what they were getting at.

That is just stupid. Defense spending is all of 3% of gdp

I agree in the long run

But in short run, when you cut military spending, where is that saved money now going? Not back into economy

it should be SOP to fully fund the military needs and social security 100%

then, and only then, should there be any discussion on what money is left for spending on things.

the insane waste going on like how fast a shrimp can run on a tread mill of how horny gerbles can get when high on cocaine should see people going to jail for agreeing to it

He's stupid, if you rebate it back to the public, it goes to the public interests...
Either way it goes to the economy.

The issue with cutting public spending into the military is that all ancillary parts and pieces getg cut.
Example...Boeing owns the B-52, but some ancillary items like the bunk chute are manufactured by other people. When the budget gets cut, they don't cut Boeing, the edge out all the little guys.
So now the aircraft can't fly because for 3 years, the bunk chute wasn't funded for manufacture...now cost is double to spin it back up. And production will take 18 months from contract to shelf. Also, R&D for add ons drops to nothing.

That's how it stings.

If it isn't PoMd it should be rebated...unless another special interest gets it

Then what happens when running huge deficits to keep from making any cuts to military budget leads to interest on the national debt becoming the biggest budget expenditure? That sure sounds good for the economy

well that's the pickle that America has put itself in

At this point it is basically political suicide to do what should be done

It's a bit too simple of an analogy but it'll work for the moment. Imagine that you've been making okay money but you are not rich. Call it $60,000 a year

But then I handed you 30 credit cards each with a maximum limit of 10,000. You use them for a while and then eventually you use them to pay off the ones you used. But you're living pretty great

We know that eventually you're going to go off a cliff when you've maxed out the 30th card but we're not there yet

The correct answer is to make your arse live a bit like a popper for a while while we get the shite in order

Well the reality is anyone doing what really needs to be done is going to create some short-term economic upheaval

Hell. That happened a little bit to Jimmy Carter. Nixon stupidly impose that wage and price freeze. You knew when it got removed it was going to create a snapback. And of course it did

So hey. We are all on this roller coaster and we know for sure that we are going to run out of track. We just aren't sure when and we are all hoping that it happens when the other party is in office

In South Carolina it does.

Cant turn around without running into a military installation, or a nuclear weapons plant.

We could reduce the defense budget by 40% and audit the hell out of them. It has to be one of the most wasteful gov't depts.

Yea, thats what the whole military indistrial complex term is referencig.

While generally true, id like to know what the diminishing return curve looks like for military spending.
