Like I said, no tax refunds were going to be an issue.

And our President knew it!!!

** I told you it was going to be a winning moment for the Dems and media. But our smart orange bastard knew it too, and cut them off! They were going to pounce on the Tax refunds not issued.
This will not doubt put them in a corner....not to mention him giving a speech tomorrow on the front lines of the boarder.

This was never going to be an issue. It would have looked terrible for the government to be collecting tax returns while simultaneously not issuing refunds. The main stream media would have suddenly remembered that the IRS is under the Executive branch.

I could not disagree more. The Average American does not give a shite about this shut down if it doesn't personally affect them. No tax refund=personally affected.... And the Dems would have ran with it.
Now, the average American has no skin in the game.

Look at who gets refunds and who will be most upset.

The loudest screamers will be the lowest 20% of earners who actually pay negative net taxes due to Earned Income Tax Credit. Those people vote overwhelmingly Dem.

I am honestly baffled by the Trump strategy. Being completely serious, what leverage does he have, or hope to gain, by shutting down the government only to then require it to function...?! Isn't the whole point to make the general public feel enough pain they'll force dems to cave? What reason would anybody move off their position in this current situation?

The strategy, IMHO, is to destroy the threat of a shutdown permanently.

If you have a shutdown and no one notices a difference, do you need the various agencies who weren’t working?

Civil servants tend to be overwhelmingly Dem, so they would feel more threatened by a government shutdown than Republicans.

When Dems are solely responsible for "the moment" itself ????

What interesting insight!
