It could not occur at any other time, obviously.

Agreed. Relevance?

Lots of things are "alive." We kill them all the time.

Life does begin at conception. That's when development of a new and unique life starts and naturally progresses.

indeed. And therein lies the rub.

Why is a "human life" entitled to protection, whereas other "life" is not?

The question of "when" that protection should vest is a related (but distinct) issue.

So, your defense is not of abortion, but the legalization of murder-for-all?

And that is the debate. A moral society does not murder its most helpless. What sort of society you want to live in is the debate. And do we want to live in a society ruled by those with so little regard for human life?

you are clinically considered dead when your heart stops beating, therefore it leads to logic that you are alive when your heart starts beating.

I'm sure you think this is some rhetorical gotcha, but really it's just silliness masquerading as some sort of high brow question.

Either way, not today...

Not at all. I am exploring the question of WHY you consider it wrong to take this particular life. I think we must answer this question in ORDER to address the propriety (or impropriety) of abortion.

Simple logic. Life can't develop without the union of the sperm and egg. So you know life can't begin before conception. But after that, there is no scientific way to say exactly when life beings, at conception, at the first heartbeat, when the fetus is viable outside the womb, or only at full development and birth.

With logical reasoning, you must assume it is at conception since you can't be sure otherwise and that is the surest way to ensure you are protecting life.

How can you argue it isn't a life when you have no way to prove it isn't?
