Slaves had nothing to do with building all those skyscrapers in NYC etc. those were built by poor Irish, Italian, German, and Polish Immigrants. Slaves also had zilch to do with the Industrial Revolution.

Wouldn't that mean that black Americans benefit from it as well? Are they going to pay reparations too?
So let's assume for the sake of argument that this statement is true (I doubt it but I digress), can someone give me a best-guess figure on the impact slavery has made on my success in life? Let's really try to break it down. Is it 5% responsible? 15%? 50%?

Slavery is pure evil. As utterly horrible as slavery is and acknowledging the unimaginable atrocities committed against those people, those inhumane times have, today, presented the black American with the greatest opportunity to succeed the world has ever seen in the least racist country in the history of the planet.
There is no excuse for slavery. I would hope and pray that the descendants could use the extraordinary sacrifice their ancestors made to pursue the American dream they may not have otherwise had an opportunity to realize.

None of them were ever slaves and I was never a slave owner. Their skin color isn’t preventing them from graduating high school, working full time and not having children until they are married.

If we’re going to pay reparations for slavery, the first thing we need is a count of the slaves in this country so we know how much it’ll cost. So find all of the people in this country who have been legally enslaved and have them fill out an application.
I predict our reparation amount will be in the neighborhood of zero.

Then those still living here have reaped the rewards as well. Not to mention all they have received in affirmative action, welfare etc.
Since all my great grandparents except one migrated here well after the end of slavery and started out with jack shite, got not gov't assistance and had to earn their own way...Am I only fractionally responsible? And the one that was born and raised here was poor as frick and worked as (their parents) slave labor in east Arkansas, and they were tenant farmers. Essentially slaves, shitty house with no indoor plumbing and shite pay. I think I need some reparations.

And what about the white folks today who had an ancestor that was a black slave? Do the black folks with the white slave owner ancestor have to pay them?
