Some members of the mainstream media have issued mea culpas for building up now-disgraced attorney Michael Avenatti, while others have shirked responsibility and some have even blamed President Trump – but it all falls flat for critics who watched his rise from lawyer for a porn star to potential Democratic presidential candidate.
Avenatti, who represented adult film actress Stormy Daniels in a lawsuit against President Trump, appeared on CNN and MSNBC a combined 229 times over two years, according to the Media Research Center. CNN’s Brian Stelter was Avenatti’s biggest cheerleader, once declaring that he was a “serious” contender to challenge Trump in the 2020 presidential election.
quote:
"CNN and MSNBC are playing victim, as if Avenatti snookered them,” Cornell University Law School professor and media critic William Jacobson told Fox News. “In fact, they exploited Avenatii and others like him for use against Trump. It was a mutually manipulative relationship in which Avenatti gained fame and CNN/MSNBC gained viewers."
quote:
“Instead of saying ‘we made a mistake, we didn’t properly vet this guy and we are sorry,’ we are hearing how actually this is Trump’s fault,” Barron said. “Few reporters are willing to admit they got this wrong and this is symptomatic of a much bigger problem in journalism.”

I got it. "It's not my fault for using drugs. It's cocaine's fault for being there."

And don’t forget Trump hater and Pulitzer Prize winner, distinguished professor, esteemed Newsweek editor, George HW Bush Funeral eulogizer, noted author, respected media figure Jon Meacham, who referred to Creepy Porn Lawyer as the “savior of the republic.”
Look at Jon Meacham’s dignified and brilliant book, The Soul of America: The Battle For Our Better Angels...
Jon Meacham, to borrow a quote from his book, thought Creepy Porn Lawyer was one of our better angels.

If they cared, they'd realize that they'd have far more sympathy from the American public, and they'd build some semblance of credibility if they didn't pick absolute shitbags to defend and portray as victims...

Things like this are why nobody takes the media seriously any longer, and honestly it helps build Trump support.
Regardless of political affiliation, the general public recognizes that people like Avenatti are distasteful scum. When you start to champion guys like this, it severely undercuts your credibility.

Media doesn't want to look like idiots.
The left is never wrong.
Somebody else's fault.
Even if Avenatti is a horrible person, he's not as horrible as Trump and it was okay to pump him up to go after Trump.
The mindset of truly awful human beings on the left.

Trump et all had been calling this guy a piece of shite who was doing whatever he could for airtime.
It is Trump’s fault that MSDNC and CNN was too blinded by what CPL claimed to actually listen?

With apologies to the late Erich Segal, being progressive means never having to say you're sorry.
