“Effective Saturday 12th August, Cole White no longer works at Top Dog. The actions of those in Charlottesville are not supported by Top Dog. We believe in individual freedom and voluntary association for everyone” — the poster read.

Apparently not

How does a hot dog cook from California make it to Charlottesville to protest?

Freedom of speech (Freedom from government prosecution) doesn't equate to freedom from personal consequence. Embarrass your employer, you'll probably get fired.

“It’s not a First Amendment issue,” she said. “Remember, that only protects you from actions by the government based on your speech. It doesn’t protect you from actions by your private employer. It’s also probably not a discrimination issue, because going to a rally like this, participating like this, doesn’t make you a member of a protected class.

Time to use this reasoning as an excuse to fire anyone who has ever attended a BLM rally, antifa demonstration, Naacp meeting, etc.

He was pointing out the hypocrisy in their statement, not their right to fire the guy.

While I don't disagree but the employer shouldn't say
quote:

We believe in individual freedom and voluntary association for everyone

because they sound hypocritical as hell

In fairness, there's a difference between supporting the freedom (from government incarceration or retribution) of an individual to associate with racists and working for a privately-owned business.

I can support the private rights of my employees while telling them they can't engage in those things if they want to work for me. That's not a contradiction.

These hot dog people wouldn't have blinked had one of their employees gone to an ANTIFA rally or BLM protest.

The irony is that if he can't find another job he'll have to get on welfare or turn to crime thus becoming a liberal

Some things can't be said, true or not. Protected is just another of saying special classes of people.
