The moment we leave Erdogan will invade NE Syria with his jihadist thugs and slaughter tens of thousands of Kurdish- soldiers and civilians alike. It will be a massive betrayal of a key US ally that will be terrible to watch.

So you'd rather see the Middle East continue to be infested with Islamists as opposed to a secular democracy like Kurdish NE Syria currently is where women and religious minorities are not persecuted?

I am not a Neocon and don't wish for permanent war, but leaving a few hundred troops in NE Syria (down a lot from the current 2K) would be enough to hold Turkey and Erdogan at bay and prevent a massive genocide.

I don’t care enough to send our men and women over there to be policeman of the Middle East. If the Kurds need equipment, sell it to them. Otherwise, it’s up to them to fight for it.

I wouldn't prefer it, but that's the way it will be whether we're there or not. Why should we try to dictate what type of government or society they have?

There’s not a single Syrian, Turk, Kurd’s life etc. that is worth even one Arkansas hillbilly’s life. They need to get their shite together and quit fighting and move into modern civilization.

... certainly better than leaving when there's an end nearly in sight. Perhaps we shouldn't of ever been there *. However leaving a vacuum WITHOUT helping to steer what comes next is illogical. And even if it was a bad choice it certainly doesn't deserve another.

The neocons, (Graham) are already saying this. Will this pull-out leave any behind to secure accomplishments? I would hope that the military would be advising POTUS wisely. So it won't be as bad as they are saying? Will McCain's ghost dazzle it all up again?

What type of nation building in land locked northern Syria do you envision working?

I understand your point. I know you believe it. I would suggest that you may be suffering from that age-old neoconservative malady that makes you believe that America has a moral imperative to ensure specific outcomes across the globe. We don’t.

Furthermore, the unintended consequences of these foreign entanglements often lead to a far worse outcome for us than if we had just left things alone.

I know your motives are good. But your error is believing that you can actually achieve the long term outcome you want. It never works out that way. Sometimes you let them sort it out and you focus on domestic issues of far more importance.

We let hundreds of thousands of Kurds get massacred after the first Gulf War and 100K+ might get killed in NE Syria after we leave now. This will make the Yazidi massacre in Iraq a few years ago look like child's play. I know it might not have been that way if we had never intervened at all, but the Kurds have really gotten screwed over by the USA multiple times.

Break the shackles of neocon-ism OP. It's as bad for you as carbohydrates. It poisons your brain into a stupor.
