in the America I wish my grandkids could grow up in. There’s no excuse for a coach not to have the players stand for the National Anthem with their hands over their hearts.

Are you saying her players were not present standing for the anthem?

Has she been asked about this? Any of the players asked about this?

Still in the locker room.

I’ve heard that they were not notified the anthem was about to be played.

Where have you been the past 5-6 years, living under a rock? That America has been long gone. But having said this, as noted, CKM uses every last minute she has pre game coaching up her players.

Stop defending the act unless you support not standing and being present for the national anthem. The coaches have days to prepare their teams and the vast majority of them have their teams present when the anthem is played. Your coach, team, and fans like yourself obviously don't believe it is significant enough to be bothered with. That's their right just as it is the right of a lot of Americans to view them as classless for it.

NO.. Not usually.
However, even if they uaually did, using all minutes before the biggest day of their careers to Coach them up should not be politicized.

Seeing the excuses here, likely from right leaning voters, is both comical and sad.

In a perfect world Jimbo would have been fired for not speaking out about the players yelling at alumni in front of a statue a few years ago. It all adds up. Lack of character and respect plus other things are taking the USA down. I wish coaches had the courage to speak out about it and the alumni encouraged the character of the people representing their university instead of win loss records.

You believe that unless a coach forces her players to stand and place their hands over their hearts for the national anthem, that coach should be fired? What if a player refuses? Kicked off the team? Should teachers force their students in class to do the same thing?

What happened to freedom?

My opinion is if it’s traditional, standard or part of the event then both teams should be out there.

I didn’t watch the game and have no opinion outside of that. If one team is out there, the other should be. Idk if the other team did that though as I said I didn’t watch.

I believe the national anthem has no place being played before sporting events.

Why is that even a supposed rule? I can think of dozens of public gatherings where it’s not played. Why did sporting events become a required venue for it?

Now, if you are there and it’s played, you should stand and be respectful.

If a coach thinks their players may not all stand, then staying in the locker room is a smart move.

Football teams stay in the locker room. Other sports too.

while I agree with you its also their free speech that allows them not to stand, its a shitty move but their choice.

If you can regulate what someone else can do the governement can place regulations on you as well.

I’ve got to hand it to whomever came up with this excuse. It’s plausible, and nobody can refute it, but I think it’s BS.
