Kid forced to quarantine for 2nd time...

Our middle schooler has to quarantine until 2/22, due to “close exposure” via class, bus, or school activity.
This is a crock of shiat that they won’t just tell us who the positive case is, or at least specify where the exposure occurred, so we can determine the actual level of risk. We’ve already checked with his friends, and it isn’t any of them.
The last time this happened, the kid that tested positive sat nowhere near my kid on the bus, and they had no classes together, no activities together, and aren’t even friends that would chat casually. They pulled 180 kids out of school because of one kid. No positive cases from it.
The best part? We have 2 other kids in school, and my wife is a teacher. They don’t consider it a risk for them to go, and we have been exposed to the middle schooler now for a week, mostly indoors due to the weather.

I hate to say it but trying to rationalize any of this will drive you crazy.
They are making this shite up as they go along.

If schools keep sticking to these Draconian CDC guidelines, this ***t will go on forever. Good luck trying to get public school systems to break away, though. DeSantis alluded to that today .

They don’t need to tell you who the kid is. They need to quit being pussies, do their job, and let you continue to send your kid to school.
Teachers during this pandemic are akin to Texas wind turbines during a winter storm.

They can’t legally tell you who specifically it is but they also should provide you more information than just “he was exposed.”

School administrators are dumb AF, something I absolutely knew by 6th grade.

The way our district explains and does it
If kid has been in close contact the kid quarantines for 14 days, even though the state only mandates 10 our nurse is scared. She refused to let her kid play sports.
If you’ve not been in close contact (no mask) 15 minutes plus with the contact you’re good
If you show symptoms during the quarantine the whole family goes into quarantine
If’s contact tests positive and another showed symptoms shut the class including us teachers and the kids siblings in district down.
Parents are to make own choice to quarantine
I’ve been lucky. Only 1 quarantined kid in my class this year. I’ve also bullied 2 sets of parents to send kids back to in person. Using their test scores and peer relationships to get them back.

So your kid really isn’t quarantining? I don’t blame you but don’t let someone in your district know, they’ll start his clock again

As a teacher, I can promise you that the teachers have nothing to do with students being sent home. We hate this stuff as well. You say 180 kids got sent home, my school has never has quite that many, but having 10-15 at a time hasn't been uncommon at all. While they are at home, I am still teaching the ones still in class. Then the quarantined students come back and half the class is 2 weeks behind the rest. So now I have to waste my time and the time of the half of the class that wasn't quarantined as I go back and have a mini lesson or completely reteach what was missed. Absolutely can't get anything done.
90% of the ones who are at home don't do a thing during their 2 week vacation and there's nothing we can do to hold them accountable...they'll just claim to not have internet access or something like that. It's stupid. Might as well go ahead and throw every test score for this year out of the window, then pray for a normal year next year, and plan on a whole bunch of students being way behind grade level next year.
I was told that in our school district, there has not been a single student who got quarantined for close contact who eventually tested positive. My school alone has had over 500 close contact quarantines throughout the year, several of those being the same students 2-4 times. 2 weeks each time.

If your kids are in private school, I would be demanding tuition be refunded to me based on the amount of days they forced my kid to not attend.

This has nothing to do with the teachers. This is all school board and administration policy.

We found out tonight. The exposure was last week.

Just make sure that they don’t find out your kid is in contact after the quarantine. We had a family that didn’t understand and we had to restart them 2 times.
Again I’m not blaming you for allowing to be around other family members, you can choose. Just make sure no admin can question the clock.

We found out tonight. He hasn’t been to school since the 11th due to long weekend and weather day today. That’s why the return date is 2/22.
Not sure how I can be blamed for something we have known about since 6:45pm today. :-)

I understand that. I was just expressing the idea of don’t let admin especially school nurse to arbitrarily start the clock over. I mean most parents are smart that post here. Parents in district I work in, no so. So I apologize if I sounded lecturing or restating it like you are dumb. I work in a 99% poverty level Title I district, so yeah

Yep. It’s a freaking joke. We have to basically provide hotel service to a kid “just to be safe.”
I said frick it after a week last time, because I had zero concerns about him being sick and big concerns about him being a spoiled PITA expecting room service and massive amounts of screen time.
