TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — A freshman Kansas congressman who had listed a UPS Inc. store as his residence on a voter registration was charged Tuesday with three felonies, including illegal voting.

Republican Rep. Steve Watkins is accused of voting illegally in advance in the 2019 local city and school board election, voting when not qualified and interfering with law enforcement by providing false information. Those felony charges were filed in state district court in Shawnee County, which includes Watkins' hometown of Topeka.

Gotta be more to this story than him using a PO Box 2 miles from his apartment as his address for registering to vote.

Interesting how illegal voting is a big deal when one party does it.

ups has a mail drop service where they will collect and store mail for longer periods of time than the post office. useful for folks who live and work in 2 locations

UPS Stores rent mail boxes at all of their stores and have done so for well over a decade. Your GOTCHA needs work.

Many small businesses use UPS as their mail drop so checks are not sitting over the weekend or at night in a mailbox on the street.

The DA charged him for not notifying the DMV within 10 days of moving.

All right before the debate starts.

DA owed someone a favor.

I'm OK with this as long as they apply it equally to Democrats in the upcoming election. Sadly, Democrats will agree with me on this since a good portion of their voters will be long dead.

He is my Representative and I have not heard what the allegations are yet. I guess he should have just set up a "charitable foundation" to use for any graft, corruption, and child sex trafficking the way your side does.

Released 30 minutes before his debate

My guess, Democrats are accusing him of what they’re guilty of as that’s what democrats do

OH hell, typical voting fraud. LOL. More like the need to find a reason to disallow him his vote. Impeccable timing.

Kagay, a Republican, announced the charges Tuesday evening, shortly before Watkins and his two opponents in the Aug. 4 Republican primary had their first and only televised debate.

You maybe onto something, but I think it’s more likely the DA is politically aligned with one of his opponents.

Watkins seems to be a very divisive figure within the Kansas GOP establishment. He’s an outsider with a lot of baggage, and his seat is vulnerable.

I didn’t look at all the details, but his fellow Republicans are the source of most of his controversies and accusations levied against him.

What an idiot.

He should have been a Democrat if he wanted to break the law with no consequences.
