We 9 of these MEN on the SCOTUS.

quote:

“Today’s digital platforms provide avenues for historically unprecedented amounts of speech, including speech by government actors. Also unprecedented, however, is control of so much speech in the hands of a few private parties,” Thomas wrote. “We will soon have no choice but to address how our legal doctrines apply to highly concentrated, privately owned information infrastructure such as digital platforms.”

Oh and Hank... it's TGP reporting it.

Good.

But I’m not sure what they can do about it.

Platform vs Publisher.

If Twitter and Facebook are going to actively censor and promote only certain types of speech then they have to be liable for the speech on their cites. Right now they hide behind the platform laws and so you can’t sue them for libel or slander, etc... you can’t force a print retraction or correction.

If you operate a social media site and you operate it as a content publisher, you should be held to a different standard.

That’s what they can do about it.

I’m sure going to miss that man when he’s gone. My favorite justice of all time.

The SC can do anything they chose....if they have the votes, and if they have the DESIRE.

It seems like todays issues are spooking not only the SC, but many of the lower courts as well.

It appears that no one judge, or court system, wants the enormous judgement responsibility in recent potential cases.....big tech, free speech, election fraud, etc.

I just don't know if they have the kahunas to do the right thing.

Yes, these platforms are just propaganda promoting entities at this point; and sensor conservatism. They should be liable for blocking free speech, when abused...

If Facebook actively promotes a false story and it ruins someone’s life or business they should be held financially and maybe even criminally liable for doing so.

In today’s world they push these false narratives so quick and they never face a single consequence. Ever.

Nobody foresaw what social media would become. It needs to be dealt with. It is ripping apart first world countries all over the globe.

If they are platforms only, the standard for allowable speech has to be speech protected by the constitution, period. If they are going to be editors/publishers, then they should not be getting the protections they are.

I have a way different opinion. It's now town square of the nation and should be treated that way.

A common gathering area to exchange ideas.

bullshite. It is a scourge on humanity.

Have people post with their real name, physical address, and real photo...THEN it would be more like a Town Hall.

He's organizing golfers to set up across from the HQ of these social media companies. Participants have been told to imagine the people walking in are like the golf ball collector on the driving range.

MySpace launched in 2003. Facebook launched in 2004.

In 2006 MySpace was the most visited site in America. More people visited MySpace than Google.

Between 2005 and by 2008 social media exploded.

16 years ago (almost 2 decades) many people warned of what Facebook and MySpace could become. I don’t know why you think that’s a crazy statement.
