Would be huge, but these rumors having been going for a year. If Trump made a deal to put another former clerk of his on, maybe that will convince him

If true, this could be a great opportunity to strengthen the SC conservative basketball team!

This time next year Republicans will still control the House, have picked up another five Senate seats and be looking at a packed Conservative Court for a generation. And seven more years of MAGA .
Enjoy your day, filthy Progs.

I want an actual conservative to set a majority and to break the will of Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

It is important that Kennedy retires early enough to get a replacement named and confirmed before the mid-term election races heat up.

i still truly believe if she dies on Trump's watch, we will see a melt by the Left that we have literally never seen before
i mean like, when they get control down the road they'll try to expand the Supreme Court to 13 seats type of melt

We all know it will happen sooner or later.
She has survived cancer yet refused to step down during Obama’s term despite him holding a Senate majority.
Funny part will be the claims that Trump has to replace her with a hard left justice despite the left’s attempt to replace Scalia with a lefty.

i do love the possibility of trotting out ole Merrick as her replacement to see the DEMs shite on him b/c of this

Civil unrest will occur IMO. And the chances of her dying in the next 7 years are probably pretty high due to age.

I wonder if RBG is regretting not retiring under BHO. They're going to have to wheel her out of there. In a hearse.

the GOP is setting this up with removing the filibuster from the Senate (which, admittedly, the DEMs started)
the DEMs are getting more extreme every day, so it's not beyond the realm of possibility that they do this to re-assert their political dominance. if Trump gets to replace RBG and Kennedy with younger guys, that's a 6-3 court. if Thomas steps down under Trump (which is rumored), that's 6-3 for a generation
this was the risk of the DEMs over playing the Scalia replacement. hell Breyer is 79

That would be a sight to see.
If I’m Trump, I dangle Merrick out as a “compromise” with a deadline. If there is no confirmation before the deadline, I find a highly qualified strict constitutionalist to replace her with.

I’m sure she is echoing the words of Thurgood Marshall to her clerks, which is “If I die, prop me up and keep voting for me.”

Yes. Who would take his Senate seat though?

Yeah the tables are completely turned.
I have mixed feelings about a 6-3 conservative court. Kind of like having a 65-35 senate. I'm just not sure it would go over well.

Kennedy has been a swing vote on many occasions, so the left wouldn't be thrilled at the possibility of having a more reliably "conservative" swing vote in 5-4 decisions.
But you're right, if and when RBG steps down (or is taken off the bench in a hearst), the fight would be monumental. She'll be 85 years old next week. That means she'll be 87 by the time 2020 rolls around. If Trump wins re-election, it's hard to imagine she hangs on until 91! Plus, do we as a country want someone (of any political stripe) sitting on the highest court in the land at 90 years old?

If Trump is re-elected, there is an outside chance he replaces the entire court, save Scalia-lite, Obamacare, Wise Latina and Wise Jewish Lesbian (NTTAWWT).
Hear me out:
RBG is 84, reportedly hasn't been in good health in years, and is unlikely to function 7 more years, probably 3, tops (so Biden rule won't come into play).
Kennedy is likely gone - been talking about it since before the election, 2 entire cycles now.
Breyer is 79 now - seems to be in decent health, so not as certain as RBG, but I think the years fly by once you get to that age - I mean, he'll turn 86 during the 2024 Presidential campaign.
Thomas is only 69 now - speaks to how young he was when HW (one of his best moves, probably despite himself) put him on the court. Certainly nothing to suggest he will die or be physically unable to serve, but he's been on the court a long time. With the chance to be replaced by Trump or a potential Dem, he might do the honorable thing, early in Trump's second term and enjoy some of his retirement.
So, after Gorsuch, could have up to 4 more by DJT.
