It takes a special mindset and physical condition to defeat enemies like the 1940s Japanese and Germans, especially in the environmental conditions that the war was fought. A politically correct military, one that waters down physical standards to be inclusive would not win that war.

No disrespect to my Army brethren. The fight against the Japanese was on another level compared to the European/African theatre overall. That being said, as a not so lean or mean jarhead I accept that Band of Brothers>>>The Pacific.

It’s the Pacific theater version of BoB. Pretty good.

If y’all like either, I strongly recommend the works of Stephen Ambrose, the man who wrote BoB and was the brains behind the national DDAY museum in Nola. Dude is a superb historian. Worked directly for Eisenhower as well.

To be fair, Japan, Germany, and Italy would be demolished in a month if they took on the Allies today. So, there is that

Yeah well, that war is never being fought again.

We're going to need coding computer nerds more than jacked up sharpshooters in the future.

It's a Marine unit's story of their battles in Pacific. Pretty fricking awesome, maybe better than Band of Brothers. It was made by Spielberg & Hanks as well.

The Allies, in the end, were more brutal than the Axis. V-1's and V-2's scared Brits, destroyed buildings, and killed people. But not anywhere near the scale of what we did to Dresden. Nor of the firebomb attacks on Japan. Forget the nukes. We firebombed whole cities on a massive scale.

The Japan, Germany, Italy of today is where the American military is headed. We'll be there in two more Dem administrations. Takes time to clean out the right wing radicals and replace them with women, gays and transsexuals.

No one was “jacked up,” and all war will eventually come down to man against man.

Arguably a key component of their victory.

Eh, it was good but it did not seem to flow as well as Band of Brothers did to me...

No doubt. My grandad was shot in the back during the Battle of Luzon. He never got over what saw in the Pacific Theater.

Based on some books recounting Marine Corps action in the Pacific Theater. One of the men in the Series was Eugene Sledge, and part of the series was based on his memoir With the Old Breed.

He was from Mobile, AL, and after the war went to API (Auburn), and later became a Biology professor.

I thjnk We’d probably be ok if we could pick from everyone we drafted instead of everyone who wanted to be in the military.

The American military was populated with fighters that were mostly born in the 20s and raised during the depression. They had to be tough and creative.

Stephen Ambrose wrote Band of Brothers (Book is better than TV Series). He also wrote Citizen Soldiers and one it's themes is way the average GI that won the war, not the generals. After DDay in June, we thought we would win in a few months ( we would have if we had let Patton go wild) so we did not have winter weather gear in the field. In order to sleep warm our soldiers had to take the next village to sleep in a warm basement.

When Ambrose was a young historian he scored an interview with Dwight Eisenhower after his Presidency. Ambrose asked him what single person was most responsible for winning the war. The answer: Andrew Higgins. Who??? was his reaction. Higgins moved to New Orleans to build flat service boats that could carry loads to service the oil and gas industry starting along the coast. His designs became the landing craft for D Day and the Pacific islands and one of the reasons Ambrose move down to NO and Bay St Louis and was responsible for the WWII Museum.

But you are right. The Greatest Generation.
