Just so everyone is clear: SDNY is a FEDERAL court

Federal prosecutors charging people with federal crimes.
I can't count the number of ignorant people who conflate SDNY with the New York state legal system.
There is no reason, I repeat no reason, that Mueller would choose to prosecute Flynn, Stone, and Manafort himself but would allow other FEDERAL prosecutors to charge Kushner, DJTJ, etc.
Cohen got pushed to SDNY because he had 0% to do with Russia. Greg Craig will be indicted any day now by the SDNY because he has nothing to do with Russia.
Trump can pardon anyone charged by the SDNY.

Well to be fair Manafort and Trump are conflated just a tad and Manafort has indeed been charged in Manhattan District Court. Those seeds of confusion are sewn very intentionally.

Technically the U.S. Attorney for the SDNY investigation would be separate from Mueller's, so they could bring their own charges. But, as you have basically said, one would think that any info they had would make it to Mueller and Mueller would have brought his own charges based on that info.
Honestly, I think this SDNY stuff is just the left grabbing at straws and hoping to keep the endless investigations going.

The Attorney general of the state of New York is investigating Trump, et al, for violation of STATE laws and regulations. It's not just the SDNY Feds who are "on Trump's trail."

I think this myself.
However, theoretically, if they wanted to string an investigation along with the hopes of indicting Trump post-office on federal charges then SDNY would be the place to do it. Mueller definitely couldnt string anything along like that...it just wouldnt fly.

Any open investigations from Mueller are being handled by the DOJ for the most part. Roger Stone, the mystery company, any other related investigations that don't warrant Mueller staying on.
