The 98 elections were a totally different paradigm from today's political situation.
The Republican brand was poison that year thanks to the House impeachment of a very popular president, over nothing more dangerous to our republic than a consensual blowjob! Gingrich justly was blamed, and had to resign for his hypocrisy since he was also guilty of martial infidelity.

I predict it turns out much like the Tea Party election did. Which would be great if McCarthy doesn’t end up as speaker. He’ll also squander it.
