"The truth unquestionably is, that the only path to a subversion of the republican system of the Country is, by flattering the prejudices of the people, and exciting their jealousies and apprehensions, to throw affairs into confusion, and bring on civil commotion. Tired at length of anarchy, or want of government, they may take shelter in the arms of monarchy for repose and security.

Those then, who resist a confirmation of public order, are the true Artificers of monarchy—not that this is the intention of the generality of them. Yet it would not be difficult to lay the finger upon some of their party who may justly be suspected. When a man unprincipled in private life desperate in his fortune, bold in his temper, possessed of considerable talents, having the advantage of military habits—despotic in his ordinary demeanour—known to have scoffed in private at the principles of liberty—when such a man is seen to mount the hobby horse of popularity—to join in the cry of danger to liberty—to take every opportunity of embarrassing the General Government & bringing it under suspicion—to flatter and fall in with all the non sense of the zealots of the day—It may justly be suspected that his object is to throw things into confusion that he may “ride the storm and direct the whirlwind.”

I'd say that Hamilton was 100% prescient of a Trump-type regime, except that "possessed of considerable talents" should be replaced with "possessed of endless shamelessness".

But, my word, on a day when somebody posted here that every facet of Western civilization is under attack... how fitting for these times.

I only regret that I could only be the 7th down vote for the OP using this quote from a founder completely out of context.

And on a positive note, that quote could apply to President Barack Obama as well.

A few more good ones from Hamilton...

"A sacred respect for the constitutional law is the vital principle, the sustaining energy of a free government."

"It's not tyranny we desire; it's a just, limited, federal government."

"Hold my beer. I can shoot better than anyone."

"I'm an excellent driver."

Is there really anything worse than a pseudo-intellectual?

The largest threat with respect to the above quote is the left, not the right. It's practically the extreme left playbook.

This isn't Trump.

You do realize Hamilton wanted Washington to be crowned “King”, right? At several occurances, Hamilton attempted to convince Washington to overthrow the continental congress and install himself as dictator. He also tried to convince him to offer titles of nobility, and to suspend elections in the wake of the Whiskey Rebellion, and to serve as president for life.

But I guess a snazzy out of context quote works just as well.

Fixed.

Or to put it more commonly, "Please, Dear Government, protect us from the evil wypipo! - The Left"

quote:

When a man unprincipled in private life

Trump is principled, believes in America, doesn't drink, do drugs, but exists in the system accompanied to him
quote:

desperate in his fortune

Trump has his own money, and is donating his salary...he isn't desperate in his fortune
quote:

bold in his temper

I did see him beating people up on WWE
quote:

possessed of considerable talents

You say he isn't talented...
quote:

having the advantage of military habits

Muh bone spur...seriously, though, he knows Sun Tzu and is well versed in chess, so maybe well enough
quote:

despotic in his ordinary demeanour

Not true, he has not thrown out the Legislative branch and has even supported the Judicial by appointing judges
quote:

known to have scoffed in private at the principles of liberty

He didn't scoff, but he has published an EO about taking people's shite...who are caught trafficking
